No Gender and Transgender Individuals The end of the XX, beginning of the XXI century, we live in, are marked by the free choice for the majority of people. This free choice oftentimes is not always limited to choosing the school to attend, the place to live in, or the job to take. Many people choose to change their gender or even give it up altogether based on some personal thoughts, ideas or feelings. In the following essay I am going to speak about neutral (no gender) and trans-gendered individuals and the choices they make in life. I will express my personal negative opinion on the gender-affecting surgeries either at birth or later in life as well as comment on the necessities of such surgeries in some cases. Every person can chose what they want to do.
Things like homosexuality that were the deadly sin several hundreds years ago, are now protected by the US Constitution, while in some countries in Europe it is possible to create homosexual marriage and even adopt a child. With all things allowed many people (and technology I should admit) went a step further and chose to change their gender. To the best of my knowledge such surgeries cost over $ 200, 000, yet people choose to engage in them to please their sophisticated partners or to personally experience the life of the person of the opposite sex. Here I would like to note that despite the fact that those people indeed benefit the doctors and government by spending large sums of money, I still somewhat oppose their decision namely because of my natural approach to things. In other words, I believe that if you genetically were created as female than you body is better adapted to life like a female.
Yet if you change your gender, the body possibly may experience some problems that will negatively impact ones health. Furthermore, cutting off the organs (breasts or male reproductive organs) for the sake of the gender change is usually non-reversible plus not rational in my mind. Maybe it sounds old-fashioned yet I still believe that the organs a person is born with are to serve better and last longer than the organs that are attached via surgery. I would not be surprised if the body would reject these organs in some cases causing health deterioration in these patients who use such surgeries. Of course, my rationality is rather clear to me because I am able to recognize my biological gender (body), my psychological gender (mind) and my sexual orientation (what my body wants) which are in perfect harmony with each other. Yet if a person urgently feels that although being a biologic male, in fact he acts like, and feels like a female, and wants to experience sex like females do, then I can understand the motive for such surgery, yet still do not support it, because it changes the organism from what our mother nature gave us.
The only one instance that I personally believe that a surgery should be beneficial for people is in case of their health problems. Infantilism, or the absence of sexual dimorphism, which is reflected in abnormally small breasts (non-existent), male genitals (sterile, non-existent), absence of proper proportions that result from such infantilism that in turn may make the person who has it a victim of jokes and ridicules is an example when a surgery should be taken. Also when a person is certainly neutral or hermaphroditic, thus possessing both male and female reproductive organs, feels bad about them and wants to be of one certain gender, then such surgeries are only encouraged. Speaking about just born children who cannot make a choice and fully rely on their parents, I would like to follow the same standard.
If a child is born as a girl or a boy and does not possess any health problems, then I think that such child should not be given a surgery to change sex because of the whims of his / her parents. From the ethical point of view, each person should be given freedom of choice (be it gender, job, school or life partner) and the parents decision to change a healthy childs sex without the childs consent (which will not be obtained until the child becomes old) is not appropriate. Yet if a child is born as hermaphrodite, or neutral, the parents should do the best they can to assure that the childs happiness in the future is not compromised. If the parents think that the child will be mocked in kindergarten, school, and university because of ones abnormal genitals, they should arrange a surgery for their child. People, who have normal genitals and want to mutilate them and change gender certainly therefore, should not be rejected, yet I personally does not agree with such decision making process. Hiring a hypno-therapist who would hypnotize a normal person and tell them what gender they are, in my opinion could save a lot of money and does not get involved in the human organism.
In conclusion I would like to say that I understand the desire or the necessity of some people to change ones sex. At the same time I do not support such endeavors and would not want to see my son ones turning 21, changing his gender. I only support and encourage the surgery when a person is not biologically complete (genetic genital mutilations, infantilism, etc. ) or deficient. I still would encourage some other (hypnosis, Gestalt therapy, etc. ) methods to apply to biologically healthy patients who nevertheless believe they are of some other sex and want surgery. Yet if nothing helps, they should be allowed to live their lives the way they want, and undergo surgery.
Thus, If a person is biologically sound I do not support the use of surgery, while if a person is biologically, or genetically sick, the operation if it can help their future lives, should be done.
