The Emotions of 9 / 11 and the Mechanisms of Defense Terrorism is one of the worst notions that started to happen to humans since the 20 th Century. Since people created weapons of mass destruction, the World stability in terms of wars and terrorist actions has been put to a shaky position. One of the most terrible examples of terrorist actions was seen during the events of the September 11, 2001. Two planes crashed into the Twin Towers situated in New York city, taking lives of many people and making a very unstable situation in the world.

There are various reasons for those people that engage themselves in such kinds of actions to do that. The most significant one is their mental instability and hir able ideas that come to their minds. People that do not engage themselves in the kind of activities developed mechanisms of defense for such actions throught the period of several decades. This research will show what mechanisms people developed to stay stable in terms of their minds and well being.

The terrible events of the September 11 will be examined and researched using various kinds of sources that now are available, concerning the ugliest act of terrorism ever. Whatever might be terrorism's deep origins, whatever the economic and political factors involved in it, and whoever might be most responsible for bringing it into the world; no one can deny that terrorism is today a dangerous and ethically indefensible phenomenon, which must be eradicated. The unanimous anger caused by the human and psychological damage inflicted on the American people by the unexpected and shocking deaths of thousands of innocent people, whose images have shaken the world, is perfectly understandable. But who have been the beneficiaries?

The extreme right, the most backward and right-wing forces, those in favor of crushing the growing world rebellion and sweeping away everything progressive that is still left on the planet. It was an enormous error, a huge injustice, and a great crime, whoever they are who organized or are responsible for this action. However, the tragedy should not be used recklessly to start a war that could actually unleash an endless carnage of innocent people in the name of justice and under the peculiar and bizarre slogan of Infinite Justice. The events that began on September 11, 2001, established terrorism as a genuine concern for most Americans, including our nations children. As we approach the first-year anniversary, it is helpful to look back at what we have learned about the management of posttraumatic symptoms and reactions of children in the setting of terrorism to identify insights into how our field can contribute to efforts to support children in the setting of terrorism. Terrorism involves the systematic use of terror.

The major aim of terrorist acts is not to cause physical harm to a group of victims but, instead, to instill a state of terror in a much larger group of secondary victims. The predominant morbidity after an act of terrorism is the psychological and emotional impact. Ignoring the emotional impact of terrorist events will only increase the sense of terror, thereby potentiating the impact of terrorism, not minimizing it. But far too often, plans to prevent and respond to acts of terrorism in our country either ignore or minimize the terror part of terrorism. Such plans are missing the main point. Developmental-behavioral pediatrics is in a unique position.

As a discipline, we posses the skills to assess and respond to both the physical and psychological needs of children in crisis situations. In the setting of a major tragedy, most of the responses will be characterized best as normal reactions to an abnormal situation; approaches that pathologies the reactions of children and adults will seriously impair attempts to deliver supportive services. Within developmental-behavioral pediatrics, we have experience in developing and providing interventions to address developmental variations, common problems or concerns, and normative reactions to challenging situations such as chronic illness and hospitalization. Our field does not require that we view reactions as pathologic or abnormal in order to design and deliver effective interventions to promote coping and adjustment. Developmental-behavioral pediatricians therefore stand ready to provide the nature and range of services required for children and families in the setting of terrorism.

The crisis that enveloped the world in the wake of 11 September 2001 seemed to blast away dreams of a better, saner world. But as Jordi Page explains, the altered landscape after the fall of the Twin Towers is symbolic of the end of an era. Closing the door on an unsustainable paradigm, we begin to walk forwards, and in walking, create new pathways into another possible world. The beautiful era of related
