How Can We Protect Environment Nowadays protection of the environment is very crucial, as the world is moving into a new era without considering any of the major problems of pollution with rapid industrialization. The best way to protect the environment is conservation. Conservation is the philosophy and policy of managing the environment to assure adequate supplies of natural resources for future as well as present generations. The primary conservation concern here is with fossil fuels. Solutions include improvement in the efficiency of fuel combustion, as well as more intense explorations of alternatives, particularly from solar energy and other renewable resources. Driving is probably the most polluting act an average citizen commits.

Pathogens in car exhaust like carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, and polycyclic hydrocarbons are toxic and are harmful to the nature. Furthermore, combustion in car engines contributes to carbon dioxide accumulation in the atmosphere, which is responsible for climate changes. Carbon dioxide is the main culprit of greenhouse effect. Meteorological readings taken in the stratosphere over the Arctic show that in over the last ten years ozone has thinned to half the concentration it had before.

Ozone is very important, because it protects the Earth from the Suns ultraviolet radiation. This may negatively affect the health of people, because it is one of major factors influencing the development of skin cancer. Moreover, the greenhouse effect is also a main reason responsible for global temperature increase. Report indicates that during the past 20 years, average temperature has increased 0. 5 degrees and in the following century, the temperature will increase 2 to 5 degrees worldwide. Researches show that gradual increase in global temperature will result into the increase of sea level, which will be followed by flood. Automobiles are powered by gasoline, which is obtained from oil.

Gasoline production is significant part of global oil consumption, which exceeds one million barrels per day, and this number is increasing by 2 percent annually. American Petroleum Association indicates that the entire amount of petroleum on the earth to be used will not exceed 2000 billion barrels (this number was obtained from the suggested amount of oil left); furthermore, it will take no longer than 95 years to completely use all oil resources. As we see, oil is a natural resource that soon will be depleted. Deficiency of numerous non-renewable resources has become a serious issue in the 21 st century. Most industrial machinery consumes energies like gas, oil, and coal. Among natural resources, oil always played a major role in providing energy for industry.

However, energy resources are limited and often it is a controversial issue that how long oil will be the source of energy for people. What can be possible done about it? Well, it is possible for people to change this situation. For example, I think if people would start buying cars with small engine volume, the consumption of gasoline will be significantly lower. For instance, why people drive huge SUV if they could drive small cars (1), which will satisfy their needs in transportation too? Small cars use approximately two times less fuel than heavy off-road vehicles, which makes possible to preserve gasoline, thus oil, which finally will affect the price of oil on international markets and will result into smaller amounts of oil to be produced.

This is when it can be possible to preserve oil not for next 95 years, but, in my opinion, for 130 at least (who knows, by that time there can be new environment-friendly technologies discovered). Besides, the production of smaller cars requires less metal and other material to be used. The production of metal also requires a lot of energy, which is obtained from coal, gas, and oil. In production of recycled materials such as metals and pulp, large amount of energy are saved due to the avoidance of additional mining and processing. Therefore, the levels of the energy saved will depend upon the type of recycling being practiced and the material being recycled. Furthermore, reuse should have more environmental benefit than remanufactured recycled goods, since energy is not needed to remanufacture the product (Webb, 1985).

The potential energy savings from recycling solid waste are enormous. Much less energy is needed to make recycled materials into new products compared to beginning the process again with new, "virgin" raw materials. For an example, substituting scrap aluminum for virgin materials reduces energy consumption by 90 % (Brougton et al. , 1991). As compared with virgin materials, using scrap steel saves 50 percent of the energy consumed: recycling paper results in a 60 percent savings; and glass can net a 30 percent reduction (Brougton et al. , 1991). The energy generated from burning these materials is but a small fraction of the energy savings realized through recycling. Now it is possible to see how just a choice of vehicle can affect environment.

The same situation is in every choice a human being makes (ex: buying products with reduced packaging, using public transportation, etc). My opinion about the preservation of natural resources and their availability in the next 50 years is that there still will be some natural resources, however, in a very limited amount. This is mainly due to the psychology of human being. We tend to use whatever is available, but when we see that it is almost the end stop. Today it is not the end yet, because we think that we still have 50 years ahead, however we forget about next generations.

I also think that due to technological progress, there will be new sources of energy discovered or at least there will be developed the way of very efficient use of gifts of nature. Even today there are some technologies leading towards quitting to economical profit they have (using alternative energy resources costs more today). use oil, gas, and coal, but people continue to use these resources due to the When energy resources will be almost depleted, then their price will be higher and people will start to use other sources of energy. It is good that people start thinking about the future.

I think that everything will be all right with the world in the next century, because from a religious point of view God will never allow the earth to be totally polluted and unable to support the lives of humans. Humans actually need to revise their attitude towards nature and the situation will be changed for better. Evolution theory is still widely accepted and is still the foundation for the change in genetic characteristics in living things. It has gone through many changes since conceived by Charles Darwin in the 1830 s.

The importance of this is that scientists are aware that the theory needs to be revised as new evidence is found. For instance, as the fossil record grows, scientists must be able to determine if the newfound fossils are transitional. As new areas are surveyed and new species are found, scientists must fill in the gaps to determine if these species are linked to other known species. In many cases, scientists will not be able to fill in the gaps. This is not necessarily evidence that evolution theory is wrong.

Limits in technology and incomplete understanding of known species will hinder this process. In some cases, evolution theory must be amended to include new findings or ideas. In essence, evolution theory must evolve to be more complete, which shows that today evolution theory is already a fact, but still at the same time remains the theory, because some thing are uncertain and there is a lot of other things and their influence to be explored.
