Friendship Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive. - St. Martin No one perhaps would argue that it is practically impossible for any normal person to survive in this world without communicating with other people. For the sake of our argument let us even disregard the economic factor that is relevant here- I mean, that economy of any society is run in such way that those individuals who are able to better cooperate with others are in definitely more advantageous position. However, thats not really the issue in this essay.
The very nature of a human being implies some sort of interpersonal relationship with others. The best proof to this can be found in the Bible-from the very beginning God decided that Adam needs a companion and He created Eve. Unfortunately, nowadays, more and more people become less interested in maintaining truly meaningful relations with others due to several reasons. Some believe that friends remain such for as much time as they find beneficial for themselves. Yet others think that real friendship is rather time- and feeling- consuming, thus it is very irrational and unwise to indulge in such sort of relationship. However, I think that the notion of friendship really goes beyond such primitive considerations.
Let us refer to the quote by St. Martin where he states that each friend presents a world in us. I find it to be a very strong statement. The inner nature of any human being is impossible to deplore to the fullest because it is immeasurable in its scale.
However, we might dare to suppose that our values, attitudes and beliefs are the key elements of our internal world, and one other thing that is important here is that we are not simply born into this world with a certain set of values and beliefs. We are strongly influenced by constant interaction with the environment and social settings that surround us. Our divine nature is wise, so if our personality lacks something that is vitally important for our spiritual well-being our inner world instantly starts to search for this peculiar thing outside of self and our subconscious proceeds to endless evaluations of the flow of information that goes through us in numerous forms, such as our acquaintances, beloved ones, and friends. Usually, best friends are people that understand each other clearly.
When one knows there is someone that understands and supports the things s / he does, it is very likely one would have better achievements. For example, if this person has no one that understands what s / he thinks, this person will feel alone and un confident. Part of developing self-confidence is by having people to support the ideas one has. In the lives of successful people, there are a lot of supporters that agree with their decisions. This is the encouragement that gives the successful people to continue in their career and to believe in themselves.
So, the role of being a good friend and supporter is very important since it could have a great affect in ones self-esteem and confidence. Communication also plays an important role in friendship. People without good communication would not be able to understand each other and would not become close friends. Oftentimes this may be an extremely painful time for us.
It is not physical pain that we have to go through, but it is our soul that suffers as we are struggling to regain the necessary level of internal balance within ourselves. We might even not completely realize what is it that we lack and what is reason why we feel so upset. But somewhere deep inside this information is being processed unto higher levels of perception that direct our physical activity and remodel our behavior patterns. Gradually, the feeling of despair is replaced but another feeling: some sort of exciting anticipation. Perhaps many of us experienced this feeling and many would agree that is surely a feeling of a pleasant type. That is why the world inside of us is born at that moment.
This world is new and fresh and it is fully adjusted to a new spiritual level that our soul needs to be at. This is the world that cannot be observed in any external form, since nothing material in our every day life has changed thus far. However, the anticipation of some great event remains and it its quite natural, since our spiritual self has already experienced it while our physical body is still unaware of it. Days are passing by and then at some moment, the birth of the world inside of us is materialized at the physical level-we finally meet a person whose mere presence makes us feel better and brings something that we missed in our lives before.
This persons care and support is free and generous and we accept it with gratitude while at the same time feeling a need to repay this special person with care and support of a similar kind. Friendship will last longer when both sides are eager to take on the responsibilities of being a true friend. Friends that help, understand, and encourage are in fact the main qualities of being true friends. Since true friends are hard to get, one should treasure each of his / her friend and be respectful of each other. People that have one or more good friends will know how fortunate they are. With good friends, people would have higher self-esteem, confidence and motivation.
Friends will encourage, inspire, and support each other. A true friend will be honest, loyal, and does not share secrets with other people without his / her friends permission. So that between friends, each will know they could trust each other. Good friends are always by each others side by giving time to listen, understand, and to solve problems. Good friends give helpful advice to help each other to face their difficulties. Friends would not run away when their friends run into troubles.
Friends have good communication and are willing to share both the good and bad times. So, friends are an important and essential part of a persons life. Who is the mysterious person that seems to feel our mood at times even better that ourselves and who is always there to help as if he or she was sent to us by God? This person is A FRIEND.
