City services Quality of services is imperial in any type of work. At present, living in a global village where our companies, cities and workers have to compete for customers, citizen and clients on the global arena. The amount of lawyers makes it rather hard at present to cheat on the customers and In the following essay I am going to speak about the cities services. In order to assess the quality of city services, the quality services in each city department must be measured.
I am going to comment on the three methods of measuring quality of services for the following city areas: fire protection, city immunization programs, police protection, park equipment, water quality. 1) Fire Protection. The measure for fire protection must assure that the citizens as well as their possessions avoid any damages caused by the fire. The first method for measuring quality of fire protection should be to measure the total amount of fire accidents where the authorities should be calculating the amount of deaths, and the average monetary costs associated with the damages. In other words, if the amount of deaths or the average expense per fire accident become lower from year to year one can say that the city is achieving at least some partial fire protection. The total amount of the fire protection equipment that is sold to the households, although is hard to measure can also serve the idea of estimating the fire protection for the given city or household in that city (Blum, 2002). 2) City Immunization Programs. The measurement of city immunization programs should assure that the citizens avoid any contagious diseases that can be spread from people to people and from animals to people.
The best estimates of course is to calculate the amount of incidents of people getting influenza, anthrax, or whatever other disease. At the same time one should also calculate the amount of immunization shots distributed among the general populace or the amount of people actually catching the disease when it is considered that the city has that disease. For instance with the ongoing flu scare in Hong Kong, the authorities calculate the total amount of people infected, and calculate the funds needed to cure these individuals (Pederson, 2003). 3) Police Protection is probably the easier to estimate. The figures of the amount of police calls, the amount of fake police calls, the total amount of crimes that are further subdivided into murder, arson, theft, and misdemeanors etc. certainly can provide the authorities with the better understanding of the danger the given city faces (Belmar, 2001). Then, if the city knows that the most frequent crime is minor driving under influence, it can come up with the proper measure such as prohibiting minors to drive after 11 pm, providing instructors to schools that would teach the students about the dangers of alcohol and driving.
If the largest crime is theft then it would be proper to deliver the message to the community as to buy additional house protection such as cameras, extra locks, and wooden doors instead of glass doors. 4) Park Equipment. This type of city services should be measured by the numeric monetary figures spent by the local authorities on this public good. Because the part equipment directly influences the appearance of the park, than a plebiscite opinion should also be taken into account. The voting booths located by the park entrances that would collect the information about the public opinion of the park condition would provide the authorities with some idea whether or not the public likes / dislikes the park and what exactly makes the park not as it should be. For instance, apparently if everyone hates a newly installed statue of George Bush Jr. with a sword in his hand and the bible in the other hand it would mean that the park manager is probably republican.
Yet if everyone in the park hates the smelly water in the park lake or hates to see various bugs eating up the tree bark around the park, then one can see that the park equipment (filters, pesticides, etc) is not what everyone believes it should be. The amounts of people visiting the park should also be used to measure the adequacy of the park condition that is directly influenced by the park equipment. 5) Water Quality. This is also a very important area where high measures are vital for human health. First of all, the authorities need to estimate the presence of any viruses, bacteria, or germs in the water and try to remove it. At the same time, one also needs to compare the given citys water to the benchmarks for the amount of flour, minerals or whatever other benchmarks exist including the water color (transparent vs. dim), water odor (odorless vs.
smell of flour or water pipes). One should also measure the presence of anything else in a regular kitchen kettle besides water. In areas where water quality is bad the kettle usually has various minerals deposited on the sides of the kettle, that possibly are also deposited in the human bodies (Real, 2002). The next measurement is the amount of people going to doctor for treatment of similar diseases. For instance if 50 % of the small town go to the doctor to cure their kidneys, one can assume that something damages them and should test the water quality.
