Is There a Need to Build Dormitory? It is actually an interesting question whether there should be a dormitory in a university or not. In order to get deeper in the issue we should understand first what the main purposes of the dormitory are. The answer may be quite simple providing the living for students, however if to look from a balanced point of view we can find out that there are some pros and contras of having dormitory in the university and what negative or positive impacts building the dormitory can make. First, the dormitory is the place where students can live. Some students simply do not have sufficient funds to rent an apartment for several years of attending college and the dormitory will be a best solution available to solve their financial problems.
Others just do not want to pay more if there is an opportunity to live close to the school they are attending, which is certainly beneficial for all the students. In some areas, the cost for renting an apartment can be even cheaper than paying for a room in the university, but in many cases, universities are located in the areas with dense population, where the cost of living is high. If there would not be dormitories, students would have to look for an apartment that will cost less, and there is a big possibility that it will be located far from school, which is the place where students are supposed to spend almost entire day for studying. This will result into better performance, which will be good for students as well for the university. Besides, building dormitory will expand the university and will raise its status.
