Recreating self in the anonymous meeting space of the Internet Self-recreating in the anonymous meeting space became an undeniable part of social life. Why? The reason is that from time to time life presents us very unpleasant surprises. Some people cope with such presents by themselves but some of them need help. Whether or not person goes to self-recreating in the anonymous meeting space is extremely individual and depends on many factors.

The thing is that human is a gregarious creature and he needs to communicate, to feel support from other individual, etc. Some people despise anonymous meetings and prefer to go in church, it is also a kind of recreating group and I personally know people how find help and support in church. But still many other people prefer to visit anonymous meetings. It is understandable because such meetings give an opportunity to sound off and anonymity helps very much indeed.

It is always easier to talk about your problems to a stranger then to an old fellow. When you attend anonymous self-recreating and speak about your problems you know for sure that nobody will blame your. In self-recreating groups people feel safe that promote openness and sincerity. But what we have now?

Self-recreating groups get new face and new abilities. I spent most of my life feeling silenced. My father made it clear to me that if I ever told anyone what was happening to me, I would be severely punished. I wrote desperate notes and thoughts in paper journals, sobbed my sadness into my pillow at night, and hoped that one day I would be brave enough to find my voice. One day, that bravery came to me. But it was in a way that I never expected, and my "voice" came emerging from a keyboard. (Virtual Community) Recreating self in the anonymous meeting space of the Internet become more and more widespread.

Numeral forums, chats, ICQ, IRQ, My IRQ, MSN, voice chats, video conferencing, the list of virtual communicating spaces and devices are really endless, and the number of people who use the is really astronomic. I may say that it wasnt always so. In early 1990 s some radio spots just started to offer virtual communities where people can communicate with others who shared their interests. Nowadays the fact that you chat at home with whole world became an ordinary thing. Renee Altson states The idea that I could easily and instantly connect with other people just like me around the country (and later, around the world) seemed to be something I'd always yearned for but hadn't been able to articulate. (Virtual Community) Why people turn to the online communities? For fun you may say and I will agree with but such people recreate well in real life and they do not crave for support and consolation, and if they do they do not seek it in Internet.

But there are a great number of lonely people, people whose lives are empty, who need to feel themselves useful. Lets examine (for example) different fan fiction communities. There are great numbers of different forums dedicated to TV serials, books, films, etc. What can you say when you will found out how many adults visits such forums, adults with higher education, who have good job and seem rather all-sufficient? What they give them discussing the latest Buffy the Vampire Slayer events? I can answer you they found community where they can be useful, where they can feel themselves important.

Renee Altson states We were a community in our brave self-exposure. As with all communities, there were misunderstandings and cliques, favored people and outcasts yet we had a commonality deeper than even those basic levels. We believed in the power of the Internet to self-publish. There were mailing lists and late-night chats; we referenced one another in our postings, friendships were forged and destroyed, sides were drawn; and we were with each other, despite the bytes and wires absolutely human. (Virtual Community) Even so people started to communicate through Internet they can transfer they communications in reality. I know many people who started to communicate virtually and some time later became acquainted in real life. I found friends online people I never would have connected with in real life, simply because distance would " ve never brought us together.

We " ve laughed and cried together, edited each other's stories, supported each other's adventures, and been friends through book contracts, childbirth, difficulty, and death. These relationships are some of the most important ones I have, and I treasure them immensely. (Virtual Community) For many people Internet communities is just a plausible excuse to find friends. As self-recreating place is Internet is perfect and there are a lot of self-help groups (adult children of alcoholics), which help people to find their own self, sometimes even to save life. The main difference between in- person and online communication is the lack of social context cues in online communication. They state that since there is a lack of social context cues, the individuals communicating online are at a more equalized participatory level, and this results in a more uninhibited mode of conversation. Also, while participating in study conferences, the online groups engaged in more social communications than did the face-to-face groups.

In fact, the online groups were perceived by the authors to act in more "good" behaviors of cohesive groups than the face-to-face groups (i. e. increased attempted influence with less domination, became less formal, and more receptive and trusting with each other). (The Psychology of Cyberspace) Where are we headed? The Internet is a new social verge and we only start to use its abilities. I do not think that virtual therapy will be able to replace in-person therapy. Some people prefer online help and recreation groups others acknowledge only in-person communication.

People like to have choice and Internet self-recreation is only an alternative. Bibliography John See's, The Psychology of Cyberspace. web Renee Altson, Virtual Community The New Frontier, Youthworker, November 2005. web Keith J. Anderson, Ph.
