The Eyes Of An Owl Future has interested people since the early days of civilization until present time. The technological progress of the nineteenth century gave birth to such literary term as science fiction. Herbert Wells, one of the fathers of science fiction created the term robot. The rapid development of science in the twentieth century made possible the creation of robots and brought humankind close for the creation of the artificial intelligence.
Contemporary science fiction literature and cinematography contemplates the possibility of human-like androids, it questions the ethical implications of the scientific progress and the readiness of the contemporary people for the outcome of the scientific progress. The move Blade Runner (1982), directed by Ridley Scott, creates the image of the future world where people and human-like androids coexist and this movie raises the eternal questions of freedom and equality. The main theme of the movie Blade Runner is the battle between people and replicant's, human-like androids. Replicant's were the copies of humans that were superior to humans in all physical and mental parameters, they could experience emotions and it required complicated test for differentiating them from humans. Replicant's were purposefully created for hard and highly qualified work in places where people could not survive. Replicant's could easily overpower people and it brought before the makers of the replicant's the question of control and for that purpose, all replicant's were given the life span of four years.
Replicant's who tried to fight their destiny were tracked and killed by police detectives called Blade Runners. The theme of the movie touches the problems of equality. The story of the replicant's alludes to the history of slavery. The slaves were the people, oppressed by their likes, other people.
The slaves labored for the prosperity of their owners, they were treated with atrocity. If they disobeyed or escaped, they were killed. The replicant's are indistinguishable from people and in some spheres, they are better then people, but people oppress them, use for their own purpose and kill them when they disobey or escape. The technical progress in the movie Blade Runner is a two-sided coin. It opens new possibilities before the humankind, but at the same time it throws the conscience of people several centuries back, lets them feel themselves as slave owners.
Again, people view their kins as property, the tools. The movie makers bring the viewers to the idea, that rebellion is the imminent outcome. However, there is a catch, the creators of the replicant's did learn from the history, and four years life span is the guarantee that there would be no successful of mass rebellion. Slaves were commonly considered not humans, the property, and they were treated as such. Here it is important to mention that many slave owners were fathers or siblings of their own slaves. At the end this situation turned against their owners, it corrupted their souls and robbed them of moral qualities, making them not human. Ironically, slave owners got into their own trap: they tried to deprive their kins of humanity and they were loosing their own humanity. This is against all moral and Christian norms to oppress your own flesh and blood, to beat it, torture or kill. Slaves were not only biblically brothers of their owners, because many slave owners were siblings and fathers of their own slaves.
Replicant's as children and people as fathers is one of the essential in the Blade Runner. There are three types of fathers in the movie: J. F. Sebastian, Chew and Dr. Eldon Tyrell. Sebastian says to Pris and Roy "There's some of me in you." He implicates, that his genes with Methuselah Syndrome, the accelerated ageing of the glands were used for creating the replicant's.
Giving his genes, Sebastian participated in creation of the replicant's like father, because these genes Sebastian acquired from his parents, all of his ancestors and passed them to replicant's. However, Sebastian makes mistake unconsciously, is indifferent to their destiny until he meets Pris and Roy and then he accepts the role of Press protector and Roy Battys assistant. Chew, the eye-maker says: "Eyes, eyes... I do only eyes. " Chew is aware that he is the creator he views his participation in creation of replicant's insignificant and he denies all responsibility. Dr. Eldon Tyrell is a symbolic figure in the movie, he has a double significance.
Tyrell, like Sebastian and Chew, is the father of replicant's, their creator. "The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long... and you have burned so very, very brightly, Roy. " Tyrell tries to talk like a father with Roy, and this knowing oppression of replicant's is horrifying. Tyrell created not only the replicant's, but their torture and death as well; he is the symbolic inhuman slave owner. Here the movie makers question the humanity of people. The plot of the movie is based on tracking replicant's, who need to be destroyed because they are not human. The story shows, that it is people, who are not human, because our humanity lies not in the chemistry of our blood or our physical abilities, but in our hearts and souls.

The Tyrell's bed, pedestal ed and canopied, is modeled after the bed of Pope John Paul II, and this is the additional accent to the metaphor of the God. The main problem is that Tyrell is not the God. The right of the human for artificial creation of humans is questioned by the movie Blade Runner.
Christian Catholic Church prohibits cloning and the modifications of the human genes. When somebody might blame the church in damping the technical progress and scientific development, this movie shows that Christian Catholic Church and the Pope have a good insight. Tyrell created replicant's for the commercial purpose; he destined them for the slavery, struggles and early death. Each replica in the movie has identification code. This is the allusion to the World War II concentration camps, when all convicts were given identification codes. People of the world fidgeted against such destiny, but do they wish such destiny on artificial humans, on replicant's, their children? The question of identity is very important in the movie. People have been speculating for years if Deckard, the Blade Runner, is the replica.
Ridley Scott gives many cues along the movie that Deckard might be a replica. Gaff makes origami during the movie, and these origami figures symbolize important decisions that Deckard has to take, and this means, that Gaff knows Deckard's mind, just like Deckard knew Rachael's mind. This gives the viewers the feeling of unease. Nobody in the reality of the Blade Runner can be sure if he is a human of a replica. There is also abundant eye symbolism in the movie.
Eyes are the mirrors of the soul, and they give away the owners. The eyes of the replicant's glow, signaling their non-human soul. Tyrell hides his soul behind huge looking glasses, as huge as his sins. The cinematographic effect, when the scene is viewed from the point of view of different personages intensifies the idea, that any citizen of this unhappy future can wake up human and meet the evening as replica. The eye symbolism conveys the main message of the movie. People should remain human; they should follow the moral and Christian rules and they should stop irresponsible scientific experiments.
