Hospital Management A person who is pointed a new position has always faced some problems especially if he or she has to change the place of work. The problems can be connected with the different methods of making decisions as well as problems of psychological nature. Recently Milton Siepman has been appointed a position of chief executive officer of General Health System. It is one of 30 hospitals in 12 states.

They form Adventist Health System. Before the position Milton Siepman was a president of Tennessee Christian Medical Center and of the Southeast region of Adventist Health System. He is rather experienced and talented worker thats why he was charged, to utilize my skills and my experience to be able to access the expertise and the skills of the Adventist systems... The first problem was reorganization of the system and revealing of its essential components. The General Health System is faced some of the challenges while developing its activity. The challenges are connected with changeable nature of the market.

The main function of The General Health System is patient care. And Milton Siepman is sure that not each component worth the effort, the financial investment that it takes. For sure, there are many systems that have grown fast and far, and are sufficient in the changing health care market. But there are a lot of others that do not make sense at present because the process of their developing took a lot of time. And a lot of things have changed such as the market, the climate and situations. The main task is to find the elements outside the acute care division.

But the market in Baton Rouge has changed since then. That caused great changes because the campus did not function to its full capacity and its full potential. Most of all its functions were primarily outpatient. Several changes were made. There were placed some inpatient beds. For that facility to really develop to its potentially an emergency room is going to have to be developed there for this reason.

Milton Siepman is sure that the Bluebonnet campus needs to be developed and they have worked out some plan to determine the future of the Bluebonnet campus. Milton Siepman pointed that he has watched the similar situations in other hospitals. Working within the Adventist system, Milton Siepman noticed that the process of changing is constant because there are a lot of fresh ideas and perspectives. We come without the emotional attachment to programs, service, people, history, and so we bring a degree of objectivity that comes with new eyes and so that happens all the time.

So, any system needs reorganization and examining the operations; and there should be a talented team of specialists who can take the organization through the process. The other problem, the chief executive officer mentioned, was connected with a psychological aspect. The work in The General Health System is different from his previous because it is quite another system. Milton Siepman studied the problem well and said that at his previous work they have carefully constructed arrangement in which the board of trustees of General Health retains total control. And thats why the man has a different set of eyes, he sees different perspectives and follows the different way of doing things in the Adventist system than in The General Health System.

Thats why the success of the actions will depend on how concepts, ideas, approaches, and methods will be transferable to another system. The former a chief executive officer Peggy Scott left for other opportunities. She has good skill and financial expertise; thats why her work was very important for the organization. She knew it well.

Milton Siepman emphasized that the organization needs qualified and skilled individuals. Thats why they are looking everywhere. It should be a team of people who could work together in a new environment. And the environment will be changed for sure.

The man pointed that any time a new chief executive officer comes it causes other significant management changes. It happens because a new CEO needs a new competent team of people who can make decisions, who are team players and who can think outside the box. Milton Siepman said that he was going to look at individuals from different organizations. But he decided to start with a sister Adventist organization, the Adventist Health West on the West Coast, because he thought that those people are known and trusted by the man. They know far more about Baton Rouge than any other person I could bring in from anywhere else. With them the new chief executive officer was going to change General Health in the next 18 months.
