My strong belief is that in todays society a great emphasis is put on finding ones own life path, by realizing own strength and weakness. I believe it is what makes the difference between success and failure. Every human being is unique and posses their own characteristics. But there are some that think most people are basically the same.

I dont agree with that assessment. I do feel that every one is looking to accomplish the same basic goals: to be happy, live an honest and wealthy life, have a great career and be a great specialist. But each one succeeds in reaching his / her goals in the unique way. Speaking about myself my unique background, experiences and my goals have led me to aspire to a career as a health care executive. I moved from the Midwest to my mother's native country, Nigeria, in my early years. Growing up around aging and exceptionally principled grandparents, the foundation for my interest in health care began.

I was captivated by the visible love that my family members had for their careers in health care. It mattered to them a lot and that was the occupation they really loved. loved. Two of my great uncles in the close-knit family ran a hospital which was accessible to those in rural areas as well as in the underserved urban areas. And we all know that good and proper health care is almost unavailable for poor people.

This is when the discussions and arguments on whether health care was a basic human right or a privilege of a truly civilized society intrigued me. I was surrounded by people who suffered unnecessarily and died to disparities in the corrupt and essentially unregulated systems. Encouraged by a family which shunned traditional gender roles, I decided on a career in health care. My experiences were enriched when I moved back to the United States to live with my mother, a pharmacist during my adolescent years.

I actively sought out opportunities to strengthen my skills and knowledge of the field. I was put on the track to dentistry while in a pre-health professional practicum in magnet high school. My awareness of health care administration increased, leading me to examine the political aspect through an internship with the League of Women Voters while also examining the clinical aspects through an internship with a dentist. The former resulted in many opportunities to learn about health-related legislation while the latter led to a local public health initiative on tobacco cessation. The last few years have proven to be the most eye opening as I played the role of patient and later, hospital volunteer in a major hospital in an urban area. As a patient, I found my care substandard at best: immense amounts of time spent alone and uncomfortable where interaction with clinicians -who treated patients as burdens-were brief, few, and far between.

My questions and concerns went unanswered, and I ultimately became afraid of the environment which I normally welcomed as full of learning opportunities. I turned this into a constructive experience, volunteering at the children's hospital. There, I found people whose experiences paralleled mine and I helped them get through their time there by treating them like human beings who happen to be ill instead of sick people with whom I had to spend and obligate amount of time. Many factors lead to substandard care, many of which can be influenced by health care executives. Fiscal and operational problems are frequent barriers to the administration of respectable care.

Also, failure to connect with the community can be a roadblock to establishing the trust necessary for clinicians and other health care professionals. By providing useful public education, encouraging and facilitating volunteerism and other opportunities to get involved with the facility, and partnering with other organizations and schools can all result in better patient care and fulfilling the responsibilities of health care professionals to the communities which they serve. I am both excited and challenged by the prospect of using my skills to serve as a health care executive, creating efficient yet high-standard of care through responsible management, and communication with clinicians as well as other organizations. I want to say that today America has a highly developed health care system, which might be available to every level of our population. And thought it might be not the same for rich and poor still the level of health care today has excelled tremendously compared to previous years. Answering the question why I want to get the business administration degree in medicine I would like to say that according to the Lawton's words every person should have the sacred place where he / she finds the imagination empowered and the compassion enriched.

Am saying this because I believe I have found the place in this life where I want to be and where I see myself next few dozen years. But I also feel that in order to possess the highest knowlege and skills in health care practice I need to continue my studies and get the BA degree. I believe that entering a business administration programm I will fill my sacred place with things that I miss now in order to be happy and help others to feel the same.
