Analysis of the works The Sick Rose by William Blake, the Sonnets by William Shakespeare (18, 130, 144) and A very Old Man with Enormous wings Friendly speaking, after getting this task I had to think a lot about what topic to choose as the topics proposed are very interesting, serious and thought-provoking. So, finally I decided to speak about some works which are very significant for me. First of all I would like to mention the Sonnets of William Shakespeare. One frequently speaks about the variety of the Shakespeare's creative work. Meanwhile his life was also as many-sided as his creative work is. It is also possible to say, that even had not one life, but had some lives.

Reading the Sonnets of William Shakespeare one automatically begins to imagine what was the private life of Shakespeare look like and what did he feel and how did he express his wonderful feelings in reality. Here one understands and remembers, that nobody has enough information about William Shakespeare's private live and intimate details and facts in general. A harmony that is what is joining all the artistic methods of William Shakespeare. All of his works express a strange spirit: a spirit of harmony. The heroes may be full of doubts but at the same time they are full of natural harmony. That is why they are so beautiful.

It is common knowledge that Shakespeare's works are exceptionally romantic. He poeticize's the features of a person whom he is talking about in the Sonnets. For example, in Sonnet 18 he compares the features of his beloved with a nice summer day and adds that at the same time she is much more beautiful. Let us remember the words Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, and summers lease hath all too short a date. Everyone should remember that our life is not so long as we imagine that, thus, one has not enough time to loose it. It is seen clearly, that Shakespeare, or rather his lyrical hero is tormented of thinking of that and of understanding such things in general.

I guess he feels lonely and sometimes even doesnt know what to do. But he is in love, that is why he has almost all the rectangular components for happiness. He compares his own personality with her and makes a conclusion, that she feels much more better than he does. The author shows his own personality through his hero, that is why I suppose it is possible to speak about the hero as about William Shakespeare himself. Taking up the Sonnet 130 one can see that here the depicting of the features is not exaggerated.

On the contrary, the author does not depict the features of his beloved in a picturesque way at all: And in some perfumes is there more delight than in the breath that from my mistress reeks. The Sonnet 144 represents, to my mind, the most interesting feelings from the very depth of the authors heart. A struggle insight somebody's heart or soul had always been an important problem of a human being. A struggle between good and evil, love and abhorrence is meant here. During this struggle a person must solve a lot of questions in his had. Finally, if hell win this struggle, hell have a serene and more or less happy life.

If a person will loose the struggle, he may easily turn into the so called outsider in society. That is what I think. I should add that almost every person some time or other shall pass this mental trial. A work of William Blake named The Sick Rose was also very interesting for me. It attracts ones attention because of its originality and ambiguity. This poem is a short one, but it is full of wisdom and interesting ideas.

Besides, because of using some abstract characters in the poem, everyone has a great possibility to understand it in his own way. Reading this poem obviously will bring a lot of enjoyment to the people, who are in depression now or who have some kind of that struggle, which I was talking about before. The poem is not an optimistic one and it show how miserable and hopeless some situations of our life are. Or, perhaps, even a whole life However, such phrases as life destroy, dark love, invisible worm, that flies in the night increase a dramatic effect. It would be much more easy to understand the matter of the problem if remembering some facts concerning the life of William Blake himself.

I mean, it would be easier to understand why it is said so. Well, it should obviously be mentioned, that the author could not imagine a bigger value for himself, than the feeling of the harmony in the inner life. Just thinking for some moments it is possible to make a conclusion, that he is completely right in that sort of consideration. A feeling of harmony itself is some kind of freedom and naturalness. As I see it, in this case a person who has harmony in its heart and mind is a really happy and interesting personality. But of course there is also a reverse of the medal.

For such kind of freedom one sometimes has to give up the rules of social behavior. It sounds very simply, but means a lot. Thus a person may turn into social outsider, outsider in society, as it was already said before But going on thinking about this question one can revalue it. Is that bad or good, being an outsider? Well, everybody is happy in his own way.

Thus, if a person is an outsider (as well as if he is not), the most probably thing is that he is happy living in that way. That is why nobody has a right of condemnation the outsiders, who do not have a desire of keeping the rules of the social life, accept some regulations and so on. But from the other hand, it is a well-known fact that a person can not exist alone, without having any connections with the people who are around and with the society in general. I think it is simply impossible. Another idea should be also mentioned. I remembered that some people express an assumption, that one must enjoy his life.

I say some people just because there are also the others, who, according to the philosophy consider that one must live suffering and only in this way a person can be happy. So, talking about such a nice thing as enjoying the life and living for pleasure, every person can choose what the word enjoyment means personally for him a pain and suffering, an entertainment and communicating with other people or staying aside, being alone all the time and being deep in thought. The third work I would be happy to mention in my essay is A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. This is a wonderful work. It impresses deeply. Sometimes it makes us to cry.

Sometimes it makes us to feel compassion. Sometimes it shocks because of its brutality That is why I have the heavy arguments to say it is very powerful and has a great emotional richness. An old man, who fell from the sky, is a real outsider here. Society does not want to receive him. Moreover, during the reading from time to time one remembers a proverb, which sounds in the next way: People are cruel by nature.

This proverb is depicted here. Instead of being glad for such a present from God a real angel, the people split upon him. What about some kind of respect? That is out of the question! What could be said about the society, where an angel turns into a method of earning the money? He was mistaken by coming in this world, where people are mostly not as good as, perhaps, he supposed or imagined that.

He is just not like other people are. He is unusual, that is why he is an outsider. An angel is suffering. He is crying. Frequently he bears a strong resemblance to a little child. And this makes the situation more expressive and sharper.

Of course, the character of an angel is just a symbol. But let us imagine how many of such angels live among us today. Perhaps we even do not notice them. Summing up everything, what was said above I would like to say, that some new ideas appeared n my mind.

There is no clear verge between being a full-fledged member of society and an outsider. Our life is a very changeable and complicated thing. It is too changeable to think that everything we have today we shall also have tomorrow, next week and always.
