The Story. It is the first day after the BIG move. The weather was so warm, sunny, and inviting that staying indoors would simply be a crime. The ocean nearby is making the inviting sounds, with the waves coming and going softly against the shore. The children were all very eager to go on a walk, after all the whole aspect of moving houses was really hard on them.
Actually, not so much the actual change of houses, as the fact that they have left all of their friends behind, and the whole community in their school and the neighborhood, that they grew to love so much. Theres always the price you have to pay! Thankfully my father and my mother have come over to spend the weekend with us. This is really comforting to have somebody you know come over. We came to the beach and started walking north along the Atlantic. Near the rocks the waves began to crash loudly.
The cool breeze is messing with everybody's hair. It is just the perfect day, of the perfect family reunion! On days like this you just have one thought in your head, isnt life beautiful The children are running all over the beach collecting shells. Their pockets are getting full of them; they still dont quite understand that the shells will be there on the beach every day! The walk is so nice. The children are actually enjoying themselves!
They are running and laughing, you can actually feel the wind carrying their laughter to and thro. Suddenly, on what seemed to be a deserted beach we see people again. They " re lying off to our left on the side of a dune-like embankment. Since we are new, I did to say hello. "Hello, " I say with a friendly voice. "Hello, " they say back to us. Abruptly, the realization hit me that these people are not wearing a bathing suit.
In fact, they " re wearing nothing at all... Im shocked! But my shock reaches its peak when Cathy, my youngest daughter, comes up to, to say something but stands there staring at these people. My first response is to grab her hand and quickly walk off, giving this couple a smile.
Oh my God! How can I explain this to my children? What will I tell them? We all start walking faster, so that the boys wont run back, and see what I have just seen. My parents are quiet (after all they were against our moving), my spouse is shocked, but doesnt show any signs. Cathy is surprised, but maybe due to not understanding or quite comprehending what she has just seen, she runs off playing with the boys without any questions.
The only thing that is going around in my head is: I hope they are just some freaks, and the rest of the people here are normal! Oh I hope we dont see anybody else! I smile at my parents and try to start a conversation. I dont succeed very much, because suddenly my two sons are running back to us, with their eyes wide opened, and shouting: Mommy, Daddy, Nana, Grandpa come see, come see!
They are running from behind the big rock. They have definitely seen something extraordinary. Due to the picture seen, I dont want to guess. I am just hoping that my worst fears will not prove to be true. As we near the boys and come closer to the big rock, the picture that unfolds is shocking to put it very mildly. There is a big group of people.
Some are playing volleyball, others are basking in the warm son. But there is one distinct characteristic that sets us apart from this community. We are dressed! Every single person in that group is naked: the men, the women and the few children that are there. One lady turns around to look, waves to us, and turns back to watch her children play in the sand.
My whole family is standing there, frozen! I cant move. My mind is racing, I am looking at my shocked children, but I cant move. Finally I gather my will power and say: Come on now! Its time to head back home!
It seems like nobody has heard a word of what I said. So I pick up Cathy, grab Kevin's and Davids hands and head back. My Mom and Dad follow my example. I practically run home. Close the door behind myself and lean against it. This is the most terrible day in my life!
What will I tell the children? How can I live in this place? And the most important question is: Do we have to become like that as well? Oh Lord, how can I move out of here?
