Darwin's Theory vs. Christian View Darwin's theory of evolution is sometimes called plausible. That is because it influenced much the traditional beliefs. Before Darwin there were some doubts concerning the origin of humanity and life. Before Darwin Church and religions of all kinds gave their explanation of how the world was created and towards what end it was heading. After Charles Darwin presented his theory in 1859, the seed of doubt was sowed.

After Darwin, Church and religion had to work harder on how to prove everybody that the Creator is God. And they did their best in this they even used science for this purpose. However, let us take a closer look to what elements in Darwin's theory of evolution evoked such strong religious objections, and in what major ways did it and its implications challenge the traditional Christian view of things. According to the Holy Bible, the world was created by God. The world means the whole Universe and all the creatures that live in it. However, there are as many religions as there are leaves in the tree.

From the oldest times, the man tried to explain the origin of world. There were many religions and each of them had its own explanation. The Greek mythology had the theory of Gods creating cosmos out of chaos. At first, there were two Gods. With time, Gods multiplied. The Romans followed with their own Pantheon of Gods.

Christian Church had only one God. It had the perfect Book that had explanation for the origin of everything in the world. It was easy the God as a creator was quick, each day he created some part of the world and its inhabitants. It took him only seven days to complete this hard work. The Genesis than shows the way people multiplied on Earth. The Christian Church was firm about proving its theory of the worlds origin if someone doubted, it eliminated such individuals, so that others would not want to argue.

The situation changed dramatically in the 18 - 19 -th centuries when the Age of Enlightenment came and the industrial revolution followed. Philosophers and scientists started to doubt. They doubted everything they could doubt and believed only what they could prove empirically. The Church and its variant of the origin of the world were doubted as well.

And in such time, Charles Darwin brought in light his plausible theory. This theory postulated that the world was a matter of evolution and all the creatures had a common ancestor. This led many to believe that the Church was wrong and the world was not created by God it simply developed from one organism in the course of evolution. That was not only evolution that was revolution. Revolution meant the change in attitude towards religion and Church, new thinking. And that meant a heavy blow to Church.

In the 19 -th century, they could not just eliminate Darwin as it was done in the Middle Ages, therefore the debates between scientists and Church arose. Those debates last until present day. Nowadays, they are called creationists versus evolutionists. Today the debate about the origin of the world and evolution is much more elaborate because of the last scientific discoveries in the field of biochemistry and genetics. Also, the Church today turned to science in seeks of scientific proofs of the fact that God is the Creator of everything. However, there were some other things about Darwin theory that evoked such strong objections from Church.

The matter is that the theory of evolution comprises as a basic principle the struggle for existence. Evolution teaches that as species evolve they eventually reach ideal population levels. As species advance, superior species eliminate inferior species -- "survival of the fittest. " Weak and inferior members of a species should be eliminated for the preservation of superior bloodlines and for the conservation of essential resources. "Nature" doesn't desire "the mating of weaker with stronger individuals, even less does she desire the blending of a higher with a lower race, since if she did, her whole work of higher breeding, over perhaps hundreds of thousands of years, might be ruined with one blow. "Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows. " And as humans are merely a species of animal, we have no intrinsic value and are therefore by no means exempt from "the war of nature. " Thus, we have Adolph Hitler (1889 - 1945) asking the rhetorical question, "should I not also have the right to eliminate millions of an inferior race that multiplies like vermin?" Hitler, of course, is remembered for murdering more than 6, 000, 000 individual human beings, all of whom he deemed to be inferior members of the species. Was Hitler wrong? Or was he the evolutionist putting into practice the theory of Darwin? The conclusion we make is the theory of evolution has to be dealt not only as scientific theory.

We must apply it to the real world with its moral principles developed in thousands of years of human existence. Cultural aspects, religion being first and foremost of them, are no less important than science and the theory of evolution. The debate between creationists and evolutionists is not fruitless because the researches conducted from both sides and opinions from both sides can show the right way for humanity where to go. In fact, the future according to the theory of evolution is quite dark for people. One day we are going to disappear from this Earth as it happened before to some superior spices. Religion and Church give us a wonderful alternative of everlasting life.

Which of these two theories is right only time will show. But whilst looking into future we must never forget our past, the mistakes and misinterpretation of the evolution theory teach us that the rational logic thinking is not always right. Any scientific theory has its weak points. Darwin's Theory of Evolution is a theory in crisis in light of the tremendous advances we have made in molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics over the past fifty years.
