For hundred years gender, sex and race have been key determinants in a persons life. Being a man or a woman white or black has given prescribed jobs both at home and in the work place. In the past century women have taken on many new roles as they have become increasingly more powerful in this world built by men for men. Similar I can say about black people who were and still are fighting against inequality in educational and working environments. But due to the changes that have occurred within this past century, a new openness has occurred in the discussion of what women and men out to do, how they ought to act, and what ought to be considered the norm in the new society.
Talking about education I have to say that gender is a very important in it. Education is a human right and an important tool for achieving equality, development. Evenhanded education benefits both men and women and eventually equalizes relations between them. The significance of gender in education is reflected from unequal opportunity of males and females have due to many factors. The gender differences will be present by the time children enter schools. Male and female students enter classroom from different behavioral, society and cultural influences at home.
Most pupils thought there was no gender difference in ability but 25 % felt girls were superior. After the change in pupils attitude since 1980 s, many people believe that girls are better academically than boys, girls have no fair of being academic, and aspirations to a career have changed too. Girls spend more time in highly structured activities than boys. Males have more opportunities than females to pursue autonomous behaviors. In nineteenth century, both middle class girls and boys were usually educated within the home by governess or parents. When the boys were old enough, they would be sent to a school, but girls would continued to educated at home or sometimes might went to a private school.
They were received different from boys who were to be prepared for the salaried work and financial responsibility for the future of families. In 1970 - 80 s the equal opportunities have been discovered. The aim for it are improving status, educational outcomes and employment opportunities for girls, encouraging more girls to go to university, raising girls career aspirations, altering curriculum options to prevent gendered subject choices, challenging stereotypical presentations of girls, challenging sexist language and assumptions which underpin and managing classroom interactions to prevent male domination. I believe that every person must have equal access to educational opportunities.
Every person must have access to basic education and other essential services no matter what gender or race his / she has. Education is the key to improving the status of women and men. Textbooks and curriculum improvement should aim to remove gender stereotypes in the content and images of textbooks. The specific cultural and other issues that constrain girls and boys educational activities and achievements should be studied so that meaningful programs can be designed. Race is also an important factor that really influences a persons choice of education and working place. Racial discrimination is a disease that we were and are unable to control.
It is something that whether or not we like it, affects our lives. White people are given more privileges and opportunities in getting a better education and applying to a better college. Black, Hispanic people and others from 3 rd world countries dont the same right or choice. Of course, money can solve a lot of problems and issues in our life. But still if you are a black person you still will not be treated same as a white one. Concluding my essays I want to say that ethnicity and race are very important in America.
Though a person can change his / her ethnicity he / she cant change the race. And not being able to change ones race can and basically will cause a person problems in life year after year. Racial heritage eventually will stop a person from getting the job he / she wants, shatter the goals and dreams, get a better education and make a career. The only way this could have been prevented is for that person not to be invented. Cruel world? That is why we see a lot of people change the ethnicity in America.
