Cold War. From the Beginning to Jimmy Carter The Cold War, a state of confrontation between the United States with its allies of the Northern Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and Soviet Union with its allies of Warsaw Pact, begins its history with the end of World War II. After the Europe has been divided into capitalistic and communistic, the two superpowers quietly decided to compete in all of the spheres with the leading of them being arms race. The Cld War was waged n political, economic, and propaganda front and had nly limited recurse t weapons. An American financier and presidential adviser Bernard Baruch introduced the term during a congressional debate in 1947. By 1948 the Sviet's had installed leftwing governments in the countries of Eastern Europe that had been liberated by the Red Army, and the United States and Britain had responded by ending reparations to the Soviet Union from zones of Germany that those two powers occupied.

The Americans and the British feared the permanent Sviet domination f Eastern Europe and the threat f Sviet-influenced communist parties coming t war in the democracies f Western Europe and elsewhere; the Sviet's, n the ther hand, were determined t maintain cntrl f Eastern Europe in order to safe guard against any possible renewed threat from Germany, and they were intent on spreading communism and the Soviet system worldwide, largely for ideological reasons. The Cld War reached its peak in 1948 - 53. In this period the Sviet's unsuccessfully blockaded the western-held secure f West Berlin (1948 - 49); the United States and its European allies free the North Atlantic Treaty rganizatin, a unified military command t resist the Sviet presence in Europe (1949); the Sviet's exploded their first atomic warhead (1949), thus ending the American maple n the atomic bmb; the Chinese cmmunist's came t war in mainland China (1949); and the Sviet-supported communist government f North Krea invaded U. S. supported Such Krea in 1950, setting ff an indecisive Korean War that lasted until 1953. From 1953 - 57 the Cold War tensions relaxed somewhat, largely owing to the death of the long time soviet dictator Joseph Stalin in 1953; nevertheless, the standoff remained.

A unified military organization among the Soviet-bloc countries, the Warsaw Pact was formed in 1955; West Germany was admitted into NATO that same year; and the United States and the Soviet Union contended for influence in Asia, Africa and the Middle East through economic and military aid and through trade and diplomatic initiatives. The last intense stage of the Cold war was in 1958 - 62. The United States and the Sviet Union began developing intercontinental ballistic missiles, and in 1962 the Sviet's began secretly installing missiles in Cuba that cold be used t launch nuclear attacks n U. S. cities. This sparked the Cuban Missile Crisis a cnfrntatin that brought the tw superpowers t the brink f war before an agreement was reached t withdraw the missiles.

After 1962, when bth the United States and the Sviet Union had clearly she that neither was ready t use nuclear weapons fr the fear f the ther's retaliation (and thus a mutual atomic annihilating), the Cld War may be considered t have begun a decline. There were many influential people during the history f the Cld War. A few include Jan F Kennedy, Senate Je McCarthy, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Joseph Stalin. Each f these people played an important rle in the Cld War although nt all n the same side.

The end f the Cld War is thought t be the collapse f the Sviet Union (during which the United States was guided by Ronald Reagan), however, it was the 39 th President of the United States Jimmy Carter, who, upon his election of the president in 1977, placed a solid foundation for it. Carter was probably the first one to realize that it is the overall actions of the United States that propagandize the increasing support for the Cold War, which dominated American foreign policy for decades. The United States caused the Cold War by the political decisions that it made and through its use of propaganda. The political decisions made by the United States from WWII onward caused the Cold War to start and to continue for decades. Cold War ended on March 31, 1991, when the Warsaw Pacts military structure was disbanded.
