Election Strategies The coming elections in United States are marked with unusual aggressiveness with which both candidates supporter teams pursue their goals. A variety of dirty tricks had been applied on the part of Bush and Kerry. The latest one is revelation of some army veterans, who served with Kerry in Vietnam, about his, not always honorable performance there. Although George Bush rejected any accusation of applying dirty tactics to undermine Kerry's support, it nevertheless did cost Democratic candidate 10 % of voters, according to most recent surveys. For the first time in a long while, electing one candidate over the other will bring about big changes in Americas domestic and foreign policies. Bush and Kerry along with their vice-president candidates Cheney and Edwards have different opinions of how the issues of foremost importance to America need to be addressed.

Still, it appears that Bush's election team is being much more effective than Kerry's because according to the recent polling reports, both candidates popular ities closely match each other, even though Bush had lost three debates in the row with Kerry. Gallup's survey says that 52 % of those questioned will vote for Bush and 44 % for Kerry. ABCs rate is a bit different 50 % to 47 %. TIMEs sociological survey shows that 48 % of potential voters are in favor of Bush and 47 % in favor of Bush. The most recent survey, conducted by ZOGBY, shows that Kerry and Bush's odds are the same they both have 45 % of voters on their sides. The media coverage has played the biggest role ever in forming public opinion during this run for president.

Any political observer would expect that Bush's poll would be much lower than his competitors, given the fact that war in Iraq has failed miserably to reach its objectives, Osama Bin Laden being still at large and oil prices reaching its ever high, at 45 $ a barrel. Yet both candidates ratings are almost the same. Apparently Kerry's stance on how to deal with Americas present problems and how to improve the living standards of ordinary citizens is not too far apart from Bush's for the voting electorate to take notice. It appears that what will prove to be decisive in winning this election is candidates personal charisma, which is going to be the major factor that will influence the results of voting. In my view, understanding of this fact has to be taken into account by both competing teams. Apparently Bush is doing better job when it comes to be appealing to public.

For the Kerry/Edwards team I would suggest next following five strategies that will ultimately improve his rating: 1) Pointing out to Bush's incompetence in the field of foreign affairs. This is what has to be repeated over and over, since his competitor wont be able to come up with effective defense, the results of all three debates have effectively proven this. I would also suggest that Kerry become even more aggressive and accuse Bush in failing to prevent the events of 9 / 11, for which he has to be held accountable. 2) Kerry has to win better media coverage of his points by making his charisma more appealing. For this any controversial act on his part will do the job. There are few proven methods how to reach this objective: appearing unofficially dressed in public, holding children in his arms, proving the adequacy of his physique by lifting heavy weights in public. 3) He also has to counter Bush with his own strategy a dirty little secrets from Bush's past need to be discovered or invented and made available to people to find out about, through media. In order to accomplish this, Kerry's team has to quickly set up independent voters and veterans committees, so there is no link can be found between Kerry and media attempts to draw support from Bush. 4) Kerry has to insure the support of African-American, the largest racial minority group in USA.

Their votes are critical for Democrats, as it will sway Kerry's race in such states as Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio, Florida and Virginia. In order to do this and still have the support of Whites, Kerry has to be very diplomatic. Yet once military spending is cut, the additional funds will be made available for various social support programs, such as welfare etc. This way no additional taxes will have to be collected. 5) What would really help Kerry at this point of the race is if he would get ill and made this information available to the public. It would automatically add up to 20 % to his poll.

For example if he had announced that he doesnt feel very good and suspects that there is a attempt has been made to poison him, itd guarantee that substantial part of electorate would turn away from Bush. The best thing about it is that Kerry would not have to openly accuse Bush of anything; all itd take on his part is to make people doubt Bush's good intentions. George Bush is an active president; this makes his position disadvantaged to the large degree, as people usually get frustrated with how matters are being handled by the present administration. There is always something can be found to criticize active president about. In case with Bush, one does not have to apply much of an effort to find any wrong doings on his part.

This all is just too obvious. Bush cannot win voters support by presenting his case in logical form. Apart from being unable to express his thoughts clearly, Bush also have speech problems there are many words that he just simply cant pronounce properly. This brings us to conclusion that in order to save his voters support, Bush is better to avoid any kind of open discussion with Kerry, as he will automatically lose. This is the main strategy that Bush image-makers team has to adopt. The rest of the recommended strategies are following: 2) Bush has the appeal to simple-minded people; he has to capitalize on this, since they constitute the biggest portion of American electorate.

Id recommend that he increases the usage of terms like axis of evil or the evil ones, thus hed contribute to a mass hysteria over the national security issues and this will guarantee him the support flag-waving patriots. 3) Bush has to insure the support of White Evangelical Christians. There are 4 million of them and securing their votes becomes even more important in the close presidential race. In order to do this, Bush has to start mentioning God in his speeches much more often than he used to before. 4) Bush's team has to fully exploit the strong points of Bush's position his personal charisma and the reputation of uncompromising fighter against international terrorism. It could turn to be decisive for his presidential campaign, at this point, if American military would have hit some terrorists stronghold and public was given information that the goal of eliminating very dangerous terrorists is being accomplished, thus saving many lives of innocent Americans. Any military victory, real or imaginary would increase his chances of wining elections, as American military service men would overwhelmingly vote for him. 5) There is one more strategy that would insure Bush winning elections making oil prices to drop. This could be easily accomplished if America announced that its troops in Iraq are there to permanently occupy this country and exploit its natural resources to the full extent.

We, as a nation, have nothing to lose if we do that weve lost respect among other countries over our foreign policies abroad anyways, Arabic countries hate us over our support of Israel yet we still have the strongest military in the world and wed be able to easily reason with those nations that might become overly too critical of our actions. The mentioned above strategies might not be moral enough, yet thats why they will prove to be effective if deployed. There is too much at the stake for the candidates, thats why every possible mean to undermine contenders position need to be considered. It appears very likely to me that some of suggested above winning strategies will be used, as there is no doubt that well hear about new scandals, dirty revelations and see candidates shaking hands with common folk as we get near the election date. In my opinion, this is quite normal and those who say that presidential race has to be honest have probably just lost their touch with reality.
