Dangerous Sex Offenders Should be Locked for Life (1) There can be no doubt as to the fact that sexual offenders pose clear and immediate danger to society's well-being. At the same time, the criminal act, on the part of these offenders is often being regarded as redeemable. As a result, people that are known to have unhealthy sexual obsessions are being released from jail as corrected members of society, after having served their time in jail. When this happens, the members of local communities, where sexual offenders reside, often decide to expose the past of these people, in order for them to feel uncomfortable and to eventually move out to other areas, so that they would become someone elses problem.
Thus, the public controversy often arises, because the system of legal justice in America is based on assumption that former criminals are capable of correcting their ways and becoming productive members of society. However, as practice shows, it is only the matter of time, before former sexual offenders strike again, after being released from prison. Thus, there is obvious inconsistency between the legal notions in this country and the objective reality, in regards to the issue of sexual offence. The reason for this appears to be quite obvious sexual offenders behavioral mode is rather biologically then environmentally motivated.
They are being driven by their anomalistic instincts, while committing crime, without being able to rationalize the practical consequences of their behavior. For example, in racially homogeneous countries, such as Island, Ukraine or Poland, it is perfectly safe for the parents to leave their children playing unattended in public parks. In America, if parent leaves an unattended child in public place, for even as little as one minute, the chances are that this kid is going to be sexually abused, within a matter of an instant. Thus, we can say that it is our own politicians who create social preconditions for the number of sexual perverts, who might pose a danger to society, to continuously increase. However, given the fact that American society is beyond the point of recovery, in demographic sense of this word, it appears that keeping repeated sexual offenders in jails and mental institutions is only the most logical way of addressing the issue, even though that it can never be fully effective, because it is concerned with consequences rather then with initial causes of the problem.
In her article Is Locking em up the Answer? , Karin Fisher is making a good point when she suggests that: If you put enough people behind bars for a long enough time, there will be fewer people left roaming free to commit crimes. Whats more, crime is primarily a young persons vocation, and the longer sentences now in vogue may keep potential repeat offenders out of commission during their prime-crime years (Fisher, p. 32). Americas jail population is the largest in the world, it accounts for 2 million people twice more then it is in China.
