Memorandum on Emily During the course of my investigation, it was being revealed that Emily's parents belong to the obscure Christian cult of Jehovahs Witnesses, who believe that Bibles commandments needs to be taken literally. This is one of the most dangerous churches of Christian fundamentalists, as religious zeal, on their part, often results in cults members sustaining bodily injuries, while trying to prove their loyalty to the God. It appears that Emily has been subjected to physical punishments on numerous occasions, because her parents believe the she hosts evil spirits, which causes her to act as any normal kid, instead of willing to study good book in time free from her studies. Emily has admitted that the reason why she was not willing to cooperate with investigators earlier is because of her parents threats to beat her up to death, if she reveals of what is being done to her.

Emily parents claims that the reason why her body is being covered with severe bruises is that she likes to play with boys, appear to be unsubstantiated. Thus, I came to conclusion that Emily's domestic punishments had nothing to do with her parents trying to correct her behavior to be socially acceptable, but with the fact that they do not consider their daughter as an individual who is entitled with civil rights. While answering my questions, Emily's parents appeared as being fully convinced that their daughter is nothing but some sort of commodity, with which they can do whatever they want. They kept quoting the following passages from the Bible: Train up a child in a way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22: 6) and He that spare his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chastened him betimes (Proverbs 13: 24), which in their mind, fully justify Emily's cruel treatment. These parents have a hard time understanding that, as members of society, they are subjected to the common law, just as anybody else.

Therefore, Emily's beatings came as a logical result of her parents living in accordance to the laws of Bible. Since it is highly unlikely that her dad and mom will ever consider changing their outlook on life, given their inability to rely on their sense of logic, while discussing religious issues, I came to conclusion that Emily is going to continue suffering from physical abuse, on the part of her parents. While talking to Emily's parents, I became fully convinced that it is not even that they might consider changing their parental attitude, but that the very fact that they came under investigation, will result in Emily becoming subjected to physical cruelty to even further extent, as they are nothing but narrow-minded Christian fanatics, who truly believe in their exceptional righteousness and in evilness of the rest of the world. In her article In the Family of God - Mental and Physical Child Abuse, Maija Elina provides us with insight on the essence of problematic's, associated with religious type of upbringing: Why has child abuse in the name of God and in the guise of love not been addressed? Because religion and family are the two sacred cows of our society. Many still believe that all religious teachings and practices -- as long as they are not cult related - are holy, as if designed by God, and should not be questioned (Elina, p. 1).

It is perfectly understandable that the majority of people in America lack the intellectual strength to refer to Christianity as what it really is the code of obscure rules and regulations, which resulted in millions of people being killed in the name of Jewish tribal good Jehovah, throughout the history. However, as I have mentioned earlier, Emily's parents are subjected to the common law, which refers to the physical violence as crime. American Constitution implies separation between Church and the State. Therefore, Emily parents insistence that there is nothing wrong with Bible thumping becoming an essential component of their daughters education is anti-constitutional in its essence. Even if they did not resort to physical violence, as method of straitening up Emily, the criminal charges could still be pressed against them, because violation of Constitutions amendments represents one of the worst crimes in this country.

Their conviction that it is their own business how their treat their daughter points out to the fact that Emily's parents are simply incapable of existing as socially responsible individuals. While conducting an investigation, I learned that Emily's parents were well aware of the fact that they were committing a crime, while resorting to physical cruelty, in regards to their daughter. This is because, as it was being revealed to me, they used to threaten their neighbors to shoot them, if they call the police, upon hearing cries of pain from the house where Emily lives. This indicates a criminal intent on their part, which provides Bureau of Social Services with additional legal grounds to bring this matter to the court, as Emily's parents mistreatment of their daughter fits the classical definition of what child abuse stands for. I have neighbors content to testify in the Court of Law that Emily has been subjected to physical abuse on continuous basis by her parents. Emily herself told me that she had just about enough and that she will also be able to testify in Court.

Thus, in my opinion, the Bureau needs to actively interfere in the matter, because otherwise, Emily's well-being in even her life might come under immediate threat. While studying Emily's case, I became aware of the fact that she suffers from the mild form of leukemia, which means that it is very likely that Emily might require blood transfusions to be performed on her in the future. However, Jehovah Witnesses are known for their unwillingness to be subjected to such transfusion, when it is required by doctors, as they consider it as something evil. Therefore, it is not too hard to predict what would be Emily parents reaction, once they find out that their daughter will need to undergo a standard medical procedure, in order to have her life saved. I have no doubt that they will deny her a chance to live, while arguing that Jehovah does not like blood transfusions.

The sheer stupidity, on the part of Jehovah Witnesses, which does not allow them to choose in favor of proper medicinal treatment for the members of their church, affected by physical illness, has already resulted in deaths of many people, who could have been easily saved otherwise. Robert Imrie's article Parents Pick Prayer Over Docs; Girl Dies leaves no doubts as to the harmful nature in Christian fundamentalism: Weston, Wisconsin. Police are investigating an 11 -year-old girl's death from an undiagnosed, treatable form of diabetes after her parents chose to pray for her rather than take her to a doctor and here is how parents contra-arguments sound: Our lives are in God's hands. We know we did not do anything criminal (Imrie, 2008). They did not do anything wrong, of course, except for killing their daughter, and now these lambs of God are having a hard time, while trying to understand why the criminal charges are being pressed against them in the first place. Therefore, I believe that Bureau needs to take an appropriate action against Emily's parents, instead of waiting until something really bad happens.

There can be no doubt about the fact they more than deserve to be deprived of their parental rights. These parents succeeded in turning Emily into someone who is afraid of her own shadow and they continue to deny all allegations of Emily's mistreatment, on their part. Such situation is intolerable in civilized society. We need to understand that by appealing to Court to deprive Emily's parents of their rights, the Bureau will not only benefit the poor girl, but will also set warning for the rest of Bible thumper's in this county, who often give birth to as many as 10 - 15 children, only to subject them to physical and sexual abuse, as something that pleases God. The following is the list of recommended actions that Bureau needs to consider undertaking, in regards to Emily's parents: 1) The issue needs to be brought to the Court with charges of child abuse being pressed against Emily's parents 2) Bureaus officials will have to appeal to the judge to deprive these parents of their parental rights, as people who are incapable of understanding what the concept of parenting stands for 3) The Bureau will have to contact the editors of local newspapers and to ask them to provide appropriate news coverage to this particular Court hearing, in order to prevent other overly-religious parents from mistreating their children 4) Bureaus representative will have to try convincing the judge to order Emily's parents to undergo psychiatric test. Emily's parents are at liberty to believe in whatever they choose to; however, if these beliefs result in suffering of others, then these parents should be referred to as common criminals and treated accordingly.

The case against Emily's parents appears to be easily winnable, as they are unlikely to resort to the services of legal aids, because, in their mind, lawyers actually serve the Devil.
