Sociology P 2 DB 2 (1) It would be wrong to suggest that the biggest difference between Japanese and American understanding of concept of corporate culture can only be discussed within a context of salary. We cannot argue with the fact that in Japan, the difference between workers and executives salaries is not quite as drastic as in U. S. However, it is not the main reason why Japanese companies comercial efficiency is much higher. We need to understand that Japanese society is based on the principle of national solidarity, while American multiculturalism causes ordinary Americans to be deeply divided along ethnic and cultural lines. From the time when American children go to school, they are being taught that they need to learn how to make the most money with the least effort applied, if they want to be considered as successful individuals.

As Max Weber has rightly pointed out the spiritual essence of Protestantism is commercialism. Being able to make a lot of money represents the great virtue for any normal American. In U. S. , people are being valued according to their financial means. Person can be physically or mentally ill, however, for as long as people consider him rich, he will remain socially popular. This is why in America; ordinary workers are being paid considerably less than their immediate superiors are.

The Wal-Mart can serve as the best example it offers entry-level salary of 8 dollars an hours, while requiring its workers to embrace team spirit. Companys managers use psychological manipulation, in order to gain workers loyalty, unlike Japanese managers, who in return for employees professional dedication provide them with variety of financial and social benefits. While American companies function as mechanism, Japanese companies function as organism. There can be no doubt that the disparity between the salaries of executives and workers in U. S. has a potential of increasing a social tension in this country.

After collapse of Soviet Union, American capitalists had realized that from now on, nothing prevents them from lowering their workers salaries or depriving them of their social rights. The role of unions in U. S. has been greatly reduced, since they ceased to be infiltrated with Commies.

In its turn, this creates situation when it is only the matter of time, before capitalists alone are going to define the designing of socio-political policies in this country. When it happens, the chances are that more and more people are going to become attracted to Marxism. However, this could never benefit them, as history shows. Capitalism idealizes the notion of comercial profit, while Communism idealizes the idea of communal living, when people do not even know of what this notion stands for.

Both of these approaches are wrong. (2) The fact that Japanese society is racially homogeneous, allows ordinary citizens to engage in economic activity, without creating a social tension, as result. We can say that Japan exploits a National-Socialist approach, when it comes to regulating economic relations within a country. In Japan, both employers and workers know that they are an integral part of society; therefore, they both need to act in socially acceptable manner. If Japanese employer pays its workers less then his competitors, in order to make bigger profits, it is automatically being viewed as a proof of his inability to fit into society, which has immediate practical implications. Thus, we can say that the large differential between workers and executives salaries in the U. S.

is justified, because it corresponds to the essence of American nation as such that is based on Protestant tradition. However, Japanese mentality has its roots in Shintoism. This is why the concept of class struggle can never become popular in Japan, as well as in any other country that promotes the notion of national solidarity. The political ideologies that consider peoples economic activity as such that defines everything else, assume that they have universal properties, while this could never be further from the truth. The Japanese corporate culture proves the validity of this statement more then anything else.
