Political Beliefs The political principles are based on political ideology; therefore it is very important to understand what political ideology the person belongs to. I think I am a Democrat. I was raised in a democratic family and was brought up in compliance with democratic principles. My family and I firmly believe that democracy is the best type of the U.

S. state system. There is an opinion that every Democrat has his own interpretation of democracy. I believe it is not true, as democratic principles are very simple to understand. During his famous speech President Lincoln gave, probably, one of the most precise and famous definition of democracy and its principles in American history.

He considered that the reins of government should belong to the U. S. nation, will of nation and for nation (Dahl, 1989). Probably, these are the most perfectly defined basics of democratic state system that can be directly applicable to any nation striving to create democratic society.

Democracy is not very simple, and, probably, even the most complicated polity in the world. It is rich in internal conflicts and contradictions. Democratic beliefs that are coming true require considered decisions and well-thought policies. Probably, one can claim that democracy may be not as effective as authoritative polity, but it is aimed to attract support and commitment to peace, security and justice. Democracy, at least in the United States, is in the process of evolution and development.

It is very important to understand why do democratic principles are so important. First of all, democratic principles comprise of: Constitutionalism - Being a young Democrat, I believe that legislative processes should be executed under the auspices of specific parameters and conditions. Personal rights should not be so much a part of our everyday right. Constitution is the law. At the same time, it is something more than a mere law.

The U. S. Constitution is the basic state document that determines the limits of credentials for different branches of authorities and State power. The distinctive property of constitutionalism is that these basic conditions cannot be changed against the nations will. For example, starting in 1787 there were only 27 changes and amendments in the U.

S. Constitution (Held, 1996). Although none of the changes were adopted easily and with no problems, all of them were supported by the overwhelming majority of the U. S. people. Democratic Elections - Naturally, the form of government cannot be called democratic, in case the heads of state are not elected by the countrys citizens by the method of free elections (Finley, 1973) in accordance with the state procedure that should be open, democratic and just in relation to all citizens.

Although the mechanism of elections may vary, the basic principles of elections should remain unchangeable. Being a Democrat, I believe that the U. S. elections should correspond to several important conditions. First of all, they should imply the chance to take part in the process of poll for all citizens complying with electoral qualification standards. The individual should be protected from possible attempts to exert pressure on him.

Finally, the process of elections should imply open and honest canvass. As I was raised in Democratic family, my core beliefs about politics come from my family and upbringing. My earliest political memory was Jersey Jackson running for the U. S. President and being defeated by Ronald Reagan. Actually, I cannot tell that I share my parents political opinions in whole.

I share their political opinions in part, as there were some other influences that were important in my own political socialization, such as school, and my friends. There were also some significant events and experiences in my life, as being in contact with the lower-class, underprivileged Black community, where I understood the importance and necessity for obeying Democratic principles because democracy guarantees personal rights and freedoms for all people irrespectively of their race, ethnic origin, religion, sex, and age. My school and environment in which I was raised in also had great impact on my political beliefs, as there were many people belonging to the lower-class, and underprivileged Black community. My environment helped he to understand that all people should have equal rights.

It seems that it was my environment that reaffirmed my political beliefs and convinced me of necessity that the U. S. people should have freedom of speech, freedom of religion and worship, freedom of printed media and other mass media sources (including television). I am convinced that the army, police, and state security services should exist irrespectively of current politics, because political belonging should not shape their activity (Lijphardt, 1984).

I support the citizens right to have free access to reliable, just and exact information about the activity of state authorities. I consider that the person should have freedom of creative work and creative self-expression; in particular, the person should have freedom to express his/ her opinion. I consider that guarantee of personal privacy should be indefeasible right of the U. S.

citizens. The U. S. citizens should have right for life, personal freedom and safety, the right for personal property and economic activity.

I am firmly convinced that democracy is the best process able to constitute democratic form of government, and creation of economic, political, and cultural prerequisites for involvement of the U. S. people in discussion, formation, shaping and realization of democratic values, decisions and policies. It is the process of formation of positive consensus based on the system of democratic standards, rules and regulations able to make the U. S.

nation the most powerful and just nation in the world. References Dahl, R. A. (1989). Democracy and Its Critics.
