New York A Tribute to the City and its People Respected Ladies and Gentlemen, This speech of mine is one that I can proudly state as besides being a personal tribute from myself to the city of New York and its people, it also represents a tribute by all the worlds peace loving populace in recognition of the extraordinary courage and resilience that the people of New York have exhibited after the 9 / 11 dastardly terrorist attacks. These attacks were at the very heart its proud citizens, but this city and its residents have proved that they do not only have a lions heart but also a giant heart and have enabled them to rise from the ashes as a people that are more stronger, undetectable and much more vibrant then ever before. Although the loss of those who perished in the 9 / 11 attacks shall always remain a tragedy that will leave it imprints on the soul of New York and its residents for all time to come, the loss of the World Twin Towers which changed the very landscape of the city has further strengthened the will of its citizens instead of weakening it in any way. The proud Statue of Liberty still beckons the world to a free country which continues the fight for a more free world where oppression and tyranny would end. The saying that disasters and tragedies bring out the best out of human beings has been confirmed beyond an iota of doubt by the valiant efforts of the Fire Department of New York, the Police Department of New York and the support that the citizens of the city provided to save lives, provide shelter and protection to the injured and affected in and around the disaster struck area and in the process often sacrificing their lives to save their citys brethren as if they were their own. The repeated telecasting of the dreadful attacks of the planes hitting the Twin Towers seemed to draw the people closer to help the stricken in any way they could instead of frightening them off from the stricken area.
The characters of the New York Cities Fire and Police Departments personnel has been immortalized and earned the respect of not only the New Yorkers, but of the whole world as a group of the most gallant people that any city in the world would love to have as its citizens. New York continues in one voice to condemn the international terrorism going around in other parts of the world such as in London, Madrid, Bali, Mumbai and other such places where it has learned from its experience and has demonstrated to the world that it will not let terrorists disrupt the peace of your city and that the human spirit will always prevail and triumph over evil.
New Yorks once destroyed areas around the Twin Towers now have high-rise towers that seem to have magically risen up as the city moves forward, however, with security concerns and more alertness for safety precautions. Your communities have pulled together with more support and understanding for each other and your religious and community leaders are leading from the front and your citizens have begun to make new beginnings to turn tragedies in to positive changes with special support to the surviving victims and specifically those who have lost their close and dear ones in the 9 / 11 tragedy. My heartfelt tribute to the city of New York and its citizens therefore can never be a personalized one but once again, I repeat, a tribute from all the peace loving populace of the world who shared the grief and pain of New Yorkers during the moments when it was dealt the cruelest of blows by the terrorists. And now some plus five years on, this greatest of the cities of the United States has proved to the world that the Big Apple will always remain what it has been, the city of lights with a giant sized lions heart that will continue to beat on for all time to come. I conclude my speech with a salute to New York City, your world famous fire and police departments and most of all to you, the proud and resilient people of New York who have demonstrated to the world the real meaning of self-belief in rising from the lowest ebbs to the magnificent heights that only the human spirit can elevate to the very top citadels of life.
