Racial Profiling Anthony Harriott's article Presumed Criminality, Racial Profiling, and Policing in America with Special Reference to the Diallo Case is a good example of how Liberals promote their political agenda, while trying to convince people that their main motivation to do so is to make American society more tolerant and humane. Harriott suggests that it is absolutely inappropriate to mention criminals racial affiliation, because he believes that this leads to racial profiling, which he considers as something opposite to the idea of democracy. Author strives to make readers to believe that there is a need for having taboos on discussion of certain controversial topics. Just as any hawk of political correctness, Harriott thinks that racial profiling undermines peoples civil rights. It does not occur to him that along with rights, citizens also have responsibilities. He does not explain why, according to statistics, one out of every three Black males had spent some time in jail.
Harriott simply tells us that we are not supposed to be talking about it, because it is racist. His arguments are absolutely deprived of logic and we would dismiss his nonsense as being written by the imbecile, if he did not explain the real reason why he is so concerned about violation of civil rights: Racial profiling serves to profoundly de legitimize the police services among their main targets the Black and Latino populations (Harriott). Apparently, author thinks that there is nothing wrong with Blacks and Hispanics turning America into a Third World nation, but fortunately, the majority of Americans think otherwise. Mary Gibbons article Profiling more then Euphemism for Discrimination is much more sensible than one described above. Author suggests that for police, racial profiling is nothing but simply a very effective tool, when it comes to dealing with crime: The technique of racial profiling has gained acceptance by various police agencies and by the courts. It is recognized as an investigative tool (Gibbons).
We can only agree with her. It is perfectly acceptable in many countries of the world to consider persons racial affiliation as contributive factor that defines his personality. This practice might be thought of as being politically incorrect, but it is scientific and the most important it is very effective. Unlike Harriott, Gibbons actually uses logic in her line of arguments.
She shows us that in contemporary America, the issue of racism is like a rush the more it is scratched, the more it itches. She shows that Liberals obsession with fighting racial injustice is just another indication of the fact that Liberalism is nothing but a mental disorder. Of course, author tries to sound very diplomatic in how she formulates her thoughts; however, it does not undermine the scientific value of Gibbons article. While we can refer to Harriott's and Gibbons articles as stupid and sensible, Malcolm Gladwell's editorial is without doubt funny.
In it, author also strives to convince readers that the practice of racial profiling is legitimate, but he does it in very original way he compares Muslims, Blacks and Hispanics to pit bulls: Of course, not all pit bulls are dangerous. Most dont bite anyone. When we say that pit bulls are dangerous, we are making a generalization, just as insurance companies use generalizations when they charge young men more for car insurance then the rest of us (Gladwell). By saying this, author implies that racial profiling is nothing but a generalization, which is based on the long-term observation of behavioral trend of ethnic or cultural minority. It simply makes more sense to suspect in drug dealing a young Latino male, who drives Porsche in the middle of night, then an elderly White couple that tries to get to the Church on Sunday morning.
It is simply a common sense. This is why; Gladwell suggests that racial profiling might be branded, as unethical, but it will never be banned by police departments in multicultural countries, just as people are to continue to generalize, in regards to pit bulls or poisonous snakes. In my opinion, Gladwell's article is the most helpful, when it comes to realizing the deep motivations for racial profiling.
