Important Guest Ralph Dale Earnhardt Sr. The opportunity of inviting my favorite person in a time travel machine to my classroom is something I would never even in my wildest dreams ever miss out on and for a major NASCAR fan like myself, the choice is naturally a very easy one for me to make of Ralph Dale Earnhardt Sr. , the greatest stock car racing driver and American iconic legend to have graced the NASCAR circuits. Since fast cars and fast races have always fascinated me, the aggressive driving style Ralph Dale Earnhardt Sr. remains imprinted in the minds and memories of all his fans. In fact his legend continues to live posthumously and his fan-following keeps increasing through the recordings of his races and the Earnhardt legacy continues to live at present through his son Ralph Dale Earnhardt Jr. who has stepped into the shoes of his father and is presently trying to emulate his race track feats.
The Earnhardt racing torch was originally lit by Ralph Dale Earnhardt's father who in his own right was one of the best drivers on short tracks and continues to shine through his son whose preferred car number is 8. While the legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr. had made his preferred car number 3 the most famous one on the NASCAR tracks. Being influenced in the car racing sport since his childhood by the successes that were achieved by his father, Ralph Dale Earnhardt Sr. was discouraged by him to take up the profession of car racing. However, Ralph Dale Earnhardt Sr.
was so sure that he would be successful at racing cars that he gave up school to actively race cars. However, it was only after his father died from a heart attack that Ralph Dale Earnhardt was able to make a name for himself on the racing track. Dale Earnhardt began his NASCAR career in 1975 and his first race was at the Charlotte Motor Speedway where he finished 22 nd. However, in the next four years Earnhardt competed in 8 races and was beginning to make a name for himself as a star of the future. With a new crew chief, Earnhardt was in his sophomore season developed the habit of winning races and is the only NASCAR driver to have won the Rookie of the Year honors and in the following season be able to win the NASCAR Winston Cup Championship. To the young as well as the older generation of racing car fans, the Ralph Sr.
made his family name of Earnhardt the most famous one on the NASCAR circuit while he earned for himself the nicknames of Ironhead and Intimidator due to his aggressive driving which also made him a favorite with the fans. However, his brilliant and highly successful career came to an end when in 2001 he died in a crash while on the last lap of the Daytona 500 race. As his death while racing was the fourth of its kind in a period of less than nine months, there was an overwhelming outcry from the fans where after NASCAR had to focus on the safety aspects in the sport of car racing. The mandatory usage of head, neck restraints safety belts were made compulsory besides the introduction of new rigorous rules and regulations. The roof-hatch escape system was also developed with drivers safety especially being stressed upon.
The time travel machine has therefore given me a chance to bring in my hero, Ralph Dale Earnhardt Sr. in his racing track suit and making him sit next to me in my classroom. I am sure that he would first hand share his car racing experience with my teacher, my class-mates and me and inform us in detail as to how the racing car world operates. Despite his being one of the greatest NASCAR racing champions, I am sure that the most important things he would have to say about would be on the safe driving and precautionary safety factors that go with all types of driving such as having our cars properly tuned up with properly threaded tire, wearing of safety belts, not talking on the mobile phone while driving, not driving under the influence of alcohol and various other such things. I am sure that he would conclude his conversation with the statement that even in a fast car race, driving is done with discipline and if there is a lapse of even a split second while driving, lives can be lost like his did on the last lap of the Daytona 500 in 2001.
