Rooney Rule Nowadays, a normal person in America feels like Alice in Wonderland, because of many social policies in this country are marked with such degree of irrationality that it makes the whole objective reality grossly illogical. The affirmative action policy is the best example of how people, who strive to eliminate racism, base their vision of future on establishment the racial selection, as the most fundamental principle of insuring equality. The same left-wing Liberals, who never get tired of repeatedly pointing out the dangers of racism, want to make racism an institutionalized policy. It is quite impossible to define the affirmative action in one sentence. Basically, it is application of racial quota principle in the field of education and employment. The racial equality is being accepted in modern America as scientifically proven fact.

Ideally, such equality should result in adequate representation of minorities in all aspects of social life. Yet, we see the situation when the facts of reality contradict Liberals wishful thinking. Therefore, the hawks of political-correctness could not come up with anything better than adjusting reality itself, so that it would fit into their theory of universal equality. Te roots of affirmative action can be traced back to 1961, when President Kennedy used this term for the first time, while insisting that there should be no racial badness, when it comes to employment or education. Oddly enough, this coincided with introduction of multiculturalism as basis, on which American new immigration policy was to be established. However, it did not take too long for the affirmative action to transform itself into an aggressive social practice, enforced by the governmental means.

By nineties, universities, large companies and government institutions were being forced to report racial dynamics within its bodies. If representation of minorities was found inadequate, it would result in repressions against such institutions. The so-called Rooney rule is a Liberal attempt to bring the insane practices of affirmative action in the field of professional sports. According to it, every NFL team needs to conduct a series of interviews, which must include at least one minority representative, before deciding whom it will hire for the position of teams coach. In his article The Rooney Rule: Should the NFL Do Away with This Form of Affirmative Action?

Jack Oceano provides us with the example of Rooney Rule being applied in practice: In 2003, Matt Millen, the president of the Detroit Lions organization, was fined $ 200, 000 for violating the Rooney Rule after hiring head coach Steve Mariucci without first interviewing any minority candidates. But the fact was that Steve Mariucci was the only candidate interviewed for the position of head coach. Five minority candidates, in fact, turned down interviews for the Detroit Lions head coaching position, because it seemed inevitable that Steve Mariucci would land the position (Oceano). Matt Millen was being fined because he wanted to hire someone who he considered as the most qualified candidate for the job. This is being presented to us by the Medias as another victory, on the way of making American society more diverse and tolerant. This, of course, is far from being a truth.

There were two Black coaches in NFL, even before Rooney Rule was introduced - Tony Dungy from Indianapolis Colts and Herm Edwards from Kansas City Chiefs. They did not have problems while being hired, because of the color of their skin, because these two individuals have reputation of very effective coaches. This is why; the suggestions of subtle racism in NFL teams are unsubstantiated. The issue of racism in America is becoming to look like a rush the more it is being scratched, the more it itches. We can draw parallels between American society being obsessed with fighting racism and Inquisitions witch-hunt.

Back then, there were many eyewitness accounts of evil witches flying overhead, while causing all kinds of disturbances with their magic powers. In the same way, Americans begin to see concealed racism even in advertising, when there is no colored person included. Now, we are going to see more NFL Black coaches, at the expense of undermining the teams performance. It seems very doubtful whether Black candidates for the positions of coaches were concerned about their civil rights being endangered, before being approached by the group of Jewish lawyers, who disguise themselves as experts in the field of promoting diversity. Professional sport means big money. Moreover, where there is money, we can be sure that it will not take long for the bloodsucking legal experts to show up, while offering their services.

Jay Nordlinger in his article Color in Coaching shows us the dynamics of how large amounts of money are being extorted from NFL teams in broad day light: Last fall, two famous civil-rights lawyers-Cyrus Mehri and the even more famous Johnnie Cochran, of O. J. notoriety-decided to tackle the NFL: They circulated a document called Black Coaches in the National Football League: Superior Performance, Inferior Opportunities They said the league had better start producing more Black head coaches, or they would go to court (Nordlinger). These lawyers are being paid $ 1000 an hour for their services. Their social stance, in regards to disproportional representation of Black coaches in NFL they explain by their willingness to make American society better. However, only very naive people can believe this.

It is all about the money, as usual Cochran and Mehri are nothing but burglars. The only difference between them and classical robbers, like Bonnie and Clyde, is that they use pencils to extort money from their victims, instead of guns. It has been noticed that representatives of chosen people are being engaged in promoting the affirmative action with little too much enthusiasm. It would be much better if they turned their attention to their brethren's in Israel, who have a concept of racial apartheid established on the level of states policy. It appears like there is a certain force behind people of different cultural backgrounds being continually alienated from each other.

The most dangerous about it is the fact that this force disguises itself as something opposite to what it really is. On the surface, political correctness strives for more tolerance, yet the practical effects of this concept are far from what they are expected to be. The main result of this is that American society getting more and more secularized into numerous ethnic groups that pursue their own interests, without caring about America as a whole. Rooney Rule is not going to benefit neither professional football nor racial minorities in this country, because it is a part of affirmative action. The idea of affirmative action was designed by Whites to help racial minorities to stand up for their rights, when it comes to dealing with Whites. Therefore, in its core, it is racist because it is based on the assertion that ethnic minorities are not capable of matching wits with Whites in fair competition, so they need to be helped up.

Yet, as soon as underprivileged minority acquires some real self-respect, it rejects these White mans notions and begins to act in its own interests. That is why non-Whites subconsciously consider affirmative action as another example of White peoples arrogance. It also accounts for low efficiency of affirmative action personnel. Minority workers know very well that it is not the quality of their performance that keeps them employed, but the color of their skin.

It undermines their self-respect, while resulting in their further alienation from the rest of society. This is why nobody will win out of having Rooney Rule in the first place, with exception of lawyers, who are pushing it. The rule itself in nothing but just a formality. It does not require NFL teams owners to hire Black coaches.

Instead, it simply calls for consideration of at least one Black candidate for the position of teams coach, during the hiring process. Jay Nordlinger explains the dynamics of Rooney Rule in the nutshell: If they hire a white coach-even while fulfilling the Rooney Rule to perfection-they may be seen as social villains. If they hire a black coach, they will win applause (until they feel like firing that coach, in which event theyd better have a passel of black candidates at the ready) (Nordlinger). We need to be able to distinguish between civil rights movement and showing Liberal agenda up peoples throats. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X were well aware of the fact that Black people could not expect their civil rights being simply handed out to them, because rights are not given they are taken. In its turn, the process of acquiring civil rights does not involve lawsuits, as we are being told today.

Black people already enjoy a full social equality. The Rooney Rule might help a few more Blacks to be hired as coaches of NFL teams, but it is not the Black people who are going to benefit from this rule the most. In fact, the majority of football Black fans are going to be negatively affected by it, because the practice of affirmative action had never resulted in increasing the quality of peoples professional performance. Thus, it is a pure nonsense to refer to Rooney Rule as part of civil rights movement.

It is nothing but another indication that there is something seriously wrong about American society, because the notion of social fairness is associated more with money than with social justice. We can say that at the beginning of nineties, civil rights movement was transformed into something different, from what it was being originally envisioned by Martin Luther and Malcolm X. In contemporary America, the representatives of racial minorities often enjoy even more rights than White Americans. As Thomas Jackson in his article What is Racism notices: Filipinos and El Salvadorans are doubtless astonished to discover that simply by setting foot in the United States they are entitled to affirmative action preferences over native-born whites, but can they be blamed for accepting them? (Jackson).

This is why those who continue to insist that we need to have even more social equality simply do not understand what this term stands for. Rooney Rule will go down in history as a slap in the face of White and Black people, because it is a form of institutionalized reverse racism, and as such, it cannot be tolerated in normal society. One of the greatest Black writers Booker T. Washington once said: The individual who can do something that the world wants done will, in the end, make his way regardless of his race (Washington, p. 99). This especially applies to the field of professional sports.

Therefore, it is only the matter of time before Rooney Rule is going to be barred, as something that undermines the performance of NFL teams. Only a professional adequacy can serve as the main principle, upon which the hiring process is based and not persons ethnic affiliation.
