... one saying goes - the gust of wind, created by the sway of butterfly's wings, can develop into a storm. At the same time, it opens a theoretical possibility for us to influence weather, for as long as we know all weather-inducing variables. There is also another way of achieving greater reliability of wind harvesting, as the source of energy. The article Wind Power Gathers Speed, which can be found on the site of Australian Academy of Science, gives us an insight on how it can be accomplished: Electrical engineers know that the wind doesn't blow all the time and have devised a number of strategies to ensure that electricity supply meets electricity demand. A network of wind farms feeding into a common grid, for example, may help provide a steady supply: when one wind farm is becalmed, others elsewhere in the region and the continent may continue to operate (Australian Academy of Science).

It goes without saying, of course, that this method of coping with wind industry's drawbacks implies the existence of well organized infrastructure. So far, wind farming industry is at the initial stage of its development. However, it appears that in future, people are going to be able to reduce the negative effects of wind farming to a minimum. (4) We will not be completely honest if we suggest that people are ready to embrace wind generated electricity as legitimate alternative. The psychological factor plays very important role in it. It is hard for us to accept the fact that the electrical power, which is the most basic element of modern living, can literally come out of thin air.

People are used to paying electrical bills as the integral part of their existence. Yet, even now, the wind turbines that had been specifically designed to supply single households with electricity are available on the market. Their cost is still too high, but this was the situation with laptop computers a few years ago, before they became a regular accessory of almost any student. However, it is the transnational oil corporations that most actively resist the implementation of alternative sources of power.

The reason is simple the more people switch to wind or solar electricity, the less money these corporations are going to be able to make. In his article Wind Generated Power Brian Heneghan was able to get to the root of this problem: Oil companies still have a large influence in government through their lobbying, electricity prices are relatively cheap and the negative effects on the environment are still widely accepted Wind energy does not violate anyones rights. However, the oil companies will probably bring up many violations, in their minds, to resist the transition to wind energy. Wind energy will not be fair to the oil companies and industries tied to petroleum based power (Heneghan).

The nuclear lobby is also very strong. Nuclear plants owners spend millions of dollars every year to convince people that nuclear power is absolutely safe, when it comes to producing electricity, just like McDonalds Corporation, which strives to make people believe that Big Mac contains very little fat. It is a true that nuclear plants do not pollute the environment to the extent that coal plants do. Still, it is only when they operate in normal mode. If anything goes wrong, a nuclear plant is capable of reducing hundreds and even thousands of square miles to an artificially created desert, as the example of Chernobyl has proven. The big energy corporations are intentionally trying to marginalize the public image of wind harvesting.

Average American believes that this industry is nothing but a side effect of Europeans taking environmental issues little too close to a heart. The unwillingness of American Government to sign the Kyoto protocol only reflects peoples attitude towards the problem of Global Warming. We live in consumerist society, which quite openly proclaims that there is no higher goal for an individual then enriching oneself, as this is only the way to achieve happiness in our materialist world. Children are taught in school to pursue careers that would enable them to make as much money as possible, while applying very little effort, not even to mention any physical work.

Therefore, people grow ignorant of environmental issues, because all that matters to them is stability of their own comfortable living, disregarding the price. This price is the well being of future generations. (5) While in 1870 the carbon fuel emissions in the air were almost non-existent, in 2000 their amount has reached 6 billion When burning, fossil fuels release large amounts of carbon-dioxide into the atmosphere. This causes a so-called greenhouse effect, when suns energy does not reflect back into the space, but gets trapped underneath the layer of greenhouse gases. Also, according to various estimates, the Earth discovered reserves of oil and coal will only last for 50 - 60 years, if consumption level remains the same. Therefore, the humanity would have to find an alternative source of energy, even if the issue of Global Warming did not exist. Using alternative fuel would drastically reduce the amount of CO 2 emission into the atmosphere and would also enable people to maintain their present standards of living.

Therefore, it is only natural for the people around the world to begin considering wind generated electricity as absolutely legitimate source of energy. The press release, prepared by Global Wind Energy Council on February 2, 2007 states: As security of energy supply and climate change are ranging high on the political agendas of the worlds governments, wind energy has already become a mainstream energy source in many countries around the world. Wind energy is clean and fuel-free, which makes it the most attractive solution to the worlds energy challenges. (GWEC) This statement might sound as too optimistic, nevertheless, the data contained in press release does support the claim that wind harvesting is going to become a mainstream energy source in very near future. In 2005, the demand for wind turbines increased by 45 %, comparing to previous year.

Apparently, we live in time when social inertia, which was preventing wind harvesting from being given the status of officially recognized energy alternative, is being slowly overcome. This fact represents a strategic threat to the governments of those countries where wind farming gains momentum, because production of energy has always remained under governmental control. The growth of wind industry's share in energy market will inevitably result in situation when government is going to loose much of its regulative authority. When this happens, wind energy will become even more popular, because the commercial effectiveness of wind farming is going to be drastically increased, as result. It is very important for U. S.

government to allow tax breaks for the companies that promote wind generated energy, as it is the case in Germany and Denmark. This is because wind harvesting cannot only be thought of in the context of whether it is profitable or not. We need to embrace a more global approach to this industry. It may very well be the case that wind turbines are going to remain only the source of electrical power in the future. Therefore, it is today that we must start building a united infrastructure of wind farms, which will allow us to effectively address the problem of energy shortage. (6) To conclude this paper we will need to summarize the statements, in regards to wind generated energy, that were being made earlier.

First of all, wind harvesting is more reliable and cost effective than collecting solar energy. This alone will give it a status of most practical source of energy, when depletion of Earth natural resources incapacitates nuclear and coal plants. Second of all, the developing of wind industry requires an unorthodox thinking, on the part of officials, who supervise the production of electrical power. They need to be able to think two steps ahead.

This can only be possible when they stop lobbying the interests of large energy corporations. Third of all, the concept of wind harvesting needs to be popularized among people, in order to make them more receptive towards the idea that they might need to fully switch to this source of energy in the future. The simplicity of this concept only adds to its popular appeal. This way of producing electricity is based of exploiting the forces of nature, without affecting them whatsoever. Therefore, it will not be an exaggeration to say that wind harvesting is not only economically justified but that it is also absolutely moral. The fact that this concept becomes more and more popular among people signifies the beginning of a new era, when technical progress of human civilization will cease to be associated with danger to the environment.
