dogs fears and experiences. 1. The great changes in his perception of the world: a. an event with a dog; b. an event with a man; III. JLO grew up. My Dog named JLO My dog JLO is my muses, my mentors, and my playful and noble co-pilots.

He has had a profound influence on me as healers and spiritual guides, and also as a co-worker, helping to guide, search, and rescue. JLO is my best friend. He never gets mad at me. He never runs off to play with other children. He always listens when I need someone to talk to. When he sees me, his brown eyes are sweet as a smile.

As a puppy, he was special: loving and smart. I had to learn all the commands. It was hard. Much hard than I thought. We walked long hours and had tests every day. Over and over I practiced giving commands.

It wasnt easy to make JLO obey me. He acted like a kid who didnt play any attention to his teacher. Many times I got angry. But I never gave up. The dog is so playful. When he was just a puppy, only five months old, he likes to swim in the swimming pool with me.

If I throw a stick across the pool, hell fetch it and bring it back to me. He is a very smart puppy. He can shake hands with you, roll over, sit, and stay. I use the commands: Sit! Down!

Over! No! and Good boy! He understands what Im saying by the tone of my voice. I and my brother shares the responsibility for taking care of him. In order to study the warning more carefully, JLO suddenly halts.

His muzzle went up, his tail stiffened, and his nostrils dilated as he scented the air. One foot also he held up, after the manner of a dog. If he is not satisfied, he continued to smell the air, striving to understand the message borne upon it to him. When JLO saw a cat at the first time they stood side by side, watching and listening and smelling. Then JLO came closer and every hair radiated infinite suspicion. The dog became very angry.

It seemed that you can see fire burst from its open mouth. His eyes glowed with a smouldering glare. His muzzle and hackles and dewlap were outlined. The spell of the dog's heritage was upon him, the fear and the respect born of the centuries of struggle and the accumulated experience of the generations. When JLO saw something new and unknown he always needed time to get used to it. But in a short time his fear of a new thing passed away.

Once, when JLO was small, he decided to examine my mothers shoes. After a time, he crawled cautiously toward the nearest shoe. It was the curiosity of growth that urged him on -- the necessity of learning and living and doing that brings experience. The last few inches to the shoe were crawled with painful slowness and precaution. At last his nose touched the shoe. He waited.

Nothing happened. Then he smelled the strange fabric, saturated with the man-smell. He closed on the shoe with his teeth and gave a gentle tug. Nothing happened, though the shoe moved. He tugged harder. There was a greater movement.

It was delightful. But after that he was afraid no more of the shoe. Later when JLO became a part-grown puppy he had had experience in puppy fights and was already something of a bully. Once he saw someone larger and older than he, and came toward him slowly, with ostentatious and belligerent importance. The dog did not seem dangerous; so JLO prepared to meet him in friendly spirit. But when the stranger's walk became stiff-legged and his lips lifted clear of his teeth, my dog stiffened, too, and answered with lifted lips.

They half circled about each other, tentatively, snarling and bristling. This lasted several minutes, and then they were beginning to enjoy it, as a sort of game. But suddenly, with remarkable swiftness, the stranger leaped in, delivered a slashing snap, and leaped away again. The surprise and hurt of it brought a yelp out of JLO; but the next moment, in a rush of anger, he was upon the dog and snapping viciously.

Jlo's development was rapid. He began to get an accurate measurement of his strength and his weakness, and to know when to be bold and when to be cautious. He had hunted in play, for the sheer joyousness of it. Yet the failure of it accelerated his development. He studied the habits of others with greater carefulness, and strove with greater craft to steal upon it and surprise it.

Once a man wanted to pick up the dog. As the hand descended closer and closer, there raged within the dog a battle of the instincts. He experienced two great impulsions, -- to yield and to fight. The resulting action was a compromise. He did both.

He yielded till the hand almost touched him. Then he fought, his teeth flashing in a snap that sank them into the hand. The next moment he received a clout alongside the head that knocked him over on his side. Then all fight fled out of him. His puppy hood and the instinct of submission took charge of him. He sat up on his haunches and howled louder than ever.

Now JLO is an enormous coal-black house. The dog's shoulders are stiff. The world now seemed changed. He went about in it with greater confidence, with a feeling of prowess that had not been his in the days before. He had looked upon life in a more ferocious aspect. And because of all this, he carried himself more boldly, with a touch of defiance that was new in him.

He was no longer afraid of minor things, and much of his timidity had vanished. We belong together. We spend all days and nights and do everything together. have helped us express our fears, our hopes and our questions about universe. They have infused every aspect of our consciousness and culture.

My bond with JLO is deep and unbreakable. Our relationship is complex and wonderful. I like him very much.
