Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Even up until now, Lewis Carroll's book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland remains very popular among children and adults. This is because of logical properties of this work that are meant to entertain and educate at the same time. The main idea of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland cannot be pinpointed. Basically, it is a collection of odd tales about the adventures of little girl, who in her dream, falls down the rabbit hole to discover a whole new world, where absurdity coexists with logic. In every tale, Alice's curiosity prompts her to meet many strange characters, as Cheshire cat, White Rabbit and Queen of Hearts, who act in weird, yet explainable manner. There is a pattern about how Alice perceives the surrounding reality her amazement transforms into disappointment.

What makes Carroll's work truly unique is the fact that children like it, despite the fact that many satirical aspects of this book can only be understood by adults. I personally liked Alice's Adventures in Wonderland enormously, when I was a kid and I still continue to do so, because Carroll's work belong to the type of books that only gradually reveal its true meaning, as reader gets older. It is well known that Lewis Carroll liked to hang out with children. He used to entertain them with inventing various logical puzzles and riddles. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland can be thought of as one big riddle, which is meant to teach children how distinguish logical fallacies from logic that corresponds to the surrounding reality. In one of books famous episodes, Queen of Hearts orders the beheading of Cheshire cat, who is slowly beginning to disappear.

Finally, there only his head remains. Yet, Queen of Hearts continues to insist that execution must take place: For as long as there is a head, it can be cut off. It was being noticed that Carroll's book is surrounded by certain illusiveness, which makes reader feel like being inside of somebody's dream. This is why Alice's Adventures in Wonderland often become the object of psychoanalysis. What personally appeals to me the most, on Carroll's book, is the fact that it is spared of moralistic undertones. This comes as surprise, given that author is known for his close ties with the Anglican Church.

There is nothing in the book that would even remotely suggest that Carroll was a practicing Christian. This is the reason why people believe that Carroll's adherence to Christian dogma was not genuine. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland can be thought of as the expression of European atheistic rationalism of 19 th century, in form of childrens tale. Some critics find an apparent pedophile motives in Carroll's book, but this suggestion cannot be considered as valid. It is a truth that author was known for being at ease in the company of young girls, while remaining a bachelor. However, this fact alone cannot be considered as such that prove Carroll to be sexual deviant.

Nowadays, people tend to think of persons actions as being motivated by some hidden agenda. This is why it is very hard for them to accept the idea that Carroll's affiliation with children was not pathological. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland literary value is undeniable. It teaches children to be open minded, when trying to solve logical puzzles. Therefore, Carroll's book can be considered as great asset, when it comes to developing childrens ability to think in abstract categories.

We can say that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is the product of Victorian spirit, which strived to find a logical explanation to just about anything. At the same time, book promotes the idea of idealism. Heroines curiosity leads her towards the new discoveries. Also, Alice is always being honest, while expressing her opinions about the underworld. If something does not make sense to her, she is not afraid to say so openly. Apparently, she does not know what the notion of political-correctness stands for.

This her quality appeals to me personally, because I also name things for what they are. Bibliography: Carroll, Lewis Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Millennium Fulcrum Edition 3. 0.
