Psychology Essay It has been noticed that people with different ethical backgrounds react differently to the same set of circumstances. Slowly, the psychologists began to realize that this can be attributed more to peoples racial affiliation then to the socio-economical aspects of their upbringing. Let us describe the most important differences and similarities in cross-cultural expression of emotions. People of European descend are known to be the least emotional of all. As a matter of fact, many of them think that it is inappropriate to intensely express anger or joy. They know how to master their emotions, in order to never become subjected to them.
People that belong to Black race are quite different, in this respect. Most of their actions are emotionally motivated. The intensity of how they express their feeling of anger or joy is not affected by the social circumstances. Asians are considered to be not quite as emotionally sensitive as Black people. The expression of their feelings is socially motivated.
They are able to actually express the whole emotional spectrum, without having an emotion, in the first place. This has to do with the fact that Asians are the most socially adaptable of all other races. These cross-cultural differences in emotional expression are easily noticeable; therefore, they can be discussed in general terms. But it goes without saying that these general rules cannot be considered as applicable, in every particular case.
There are also many similarities in how people from different cultures express their emotions. For example, smile always indicate positive emotion, regardless of individuals racial affiliation. And other way around lowered eyebrows indicate anger, suspicion or hate. The emotional spectrum, of course, is not bipolar. The range of emotional expression varies greatly. But it is important to understand that the cross-cultural aspects of emotional expression do not affect the essence of the emotion.
