I took human services in college for various reasons, and I believe that my decision was right and that I will be able to continue with that type of education until I get BA in human services. In the Human Services field one should be endowed with basic skills and I am endowed with: data gathering, interviewing, and researching, relationship building, and implementing action plans. I take pleasure in knowing what to do in the task I am performing. I enjoy gathering information to learn what to do. I like to give interviews but not to be interviewed. In Intro to Social Work, one of our assignments was to interview a social worker; I learned so much from just that 30 -minute interview.
I learned that there is just not one job title you can get when being a social worker. I do not like the feeling of being the interviewee; I am always scared of saying the wrong thing, then not getting the job. I like to research to know more what I am doing, whether it is working on a paper or something for work. I like to be in control and right. I enjoy meeting others and getting to know them. Relationship building is a key skill to have in this profession.
I hope to better my self with this skill by taking inter-viewing techniques. I believe I can build relationships well but I feel I can do better. Hopefully by the end of the quarter Interviewing Techniques will help me with this. I like to take charge and implement action plans. In my work or at school I like to take charge when given a group task, I like to tell everyone what to do. I like to construct the plan and then implement it.
I need help in basic knowledge areas. Hopefully with taking certain classes I will be able to learn about family violence & abuse, human services & social policy, and many other areas that are connected with human services. I want to continue my work with low income families even after I graduate, since it is morally rewarding work you are helping people that really need and appreciate your help. Certainly, there are many other occupations that are appealing to people, however I chose human services because I like to communicate with people and help those who really do need help. I want to attain BA in Human Services, which is my main goal in the given time period, and I am going to put all my efforts in order to achieve that goal. Human Services is a rather rewarding job in terms of learning new information and having new experiences.
Besides working with people and helping them, I should be able to learn about various problems people have and how to better solve those problems. By helping others, I will also be able to make many new friends and simply meet new and interesting people. Human Services is the most suitable major for me, I believe that by doing something I enjoy I will not only be able to expand my own horizons in terms of many things but also help other people solve their problems and improve lives. Currently there are a lot of people in our country that need help, but not everyone is able and willing to help them. I believe that the more people put their efforts to help the poor and low income families, the more the chances are that things are going to work out better for them. My goal is to get a BA in Human Services and all the courses that I have already taken and some of the experiences I have had will certainly help me to achieve that goal.
Poor and low income families have to be helped by someone, and I enjoy helping them and working with them, since the feeling of easing someones life and helping someone in need is rewarding enough to motivate me work in that particular field.
