Significance is something of importance to a person. The most significant event of my life was moving out of my parents house into my own apartment, because the move has taught me responsibility, how to deal with uncertainty, and how to find work in a new place. These are all very important things in life that a person should learn. I am glad that I got to learn them early so that I would not be so dependent on my parents.
Responsibility is one of the most important lessons to learn in life. Since July, when I moved out of my parents home, I have learned a little about responsibility. One responsibility I have learned is how to manage my own money. When I lived at home, I went shopping every weekend. I had a job, but I didnt have anything to pay for. Once I moved into my apartment, I had to stop shopping every weekend, and learn how to save my money for the bills that I had to pay.
I had rent, phone bills, utility bills, cable bills, and washer and dryer rental, not to mention all of the deposits and new things I had to buy for my new home. I also had to learn how to take care of a pet. My roommate and I have a Rottwieller named Kita. She weighs 110 pounds. So her food is very expensive. We also have to take her walking, and outside to use the bathroom, so weve really learned that taking care of a pet is like having a child.
We have to take her t 0 p the vet when she gets sick; we have to bathe her when she gets dirt, and we have to clean up after her. Its a job all by itself, but these responsibilities arent as hard as taking care of myself. This is difficult also. By now I have learned not to wash colors with whites! Its also a job to get myself up in the morning to go to school, or to work. I guess I have learned a little about how the real world works.
There were also uncertainties to moving out. For the first week I was somewhat homesick. I missed all the things they did for me. I missed the clothes being washed, and my room, being clean, and my room being cleaned, and not having to worry about money. It was also strange being in a new place, and having to learn my way around town.
I got lost so many times in bad parts of town, but I have now learned my own way around. Making friends and getting along with new neighbors was another uncertainty. I had to learn how to deal with bad neighbors and make friends so that if we needed something we could call on them. Another obstacle was finding a job in a new place, so that I could support myself. It was very frustrating, because I had to go to many different places and eventually had to settle for a job that wasnt great, but I needed the money. I had to have a job because I had to pay the bills, so I settled for a job that I didnt really want.
Juggling school with work was also hard. I was working two jobs and going to school full time just to get by. After I had enough money saved up, I finally quit the job with less pay and worked full time waitressing at Cliffs Oyster Bar. Waitressing is also stressful, because it is a gamble. I never know when I am going to make a lot of money or if I dont make much at all. Waiting tables, though it is a gamble, pays my bills, and I have learned how to live a tight life.
Moving out of my parents house into my own apartment id by far the most significant event of my life. All of the lessons that I learned were some of the most 6 important lessons one can learn in life. I couldnt even begin to describe each and every one that I have learned. I have learned responsibilities, how to deal with stress and uncertainty, and how to find work in a new place.
Although I have messed up in my trial and error process, I wouldnt change any of it.
