Electricity is one of the fundamentals of life and can sometimes be associated as a simple convenience, when it is actually very complex and requires a lot more work than one realizes. These theories and more will be explained throughout the paper. When one hears the word the first things that most people think of are the TV, the microwave, computers, A/C, and other electronically supplied devices in the house. These instances are only of the smallest methods of electric uses. Electricity is used in homes, industry, communications, transportation, and in medicine/ science. We thus consume such large amounts of it that there have been numerous ways of producing the required amounts to sustain the need in certain areas.

Here are a few: nuclear, hydroelectric, and solar plants. Nuclear plants are somewhat common, yet extremely dangerous. The energy is produced in large towers that have extremely small uranium rods that require these enormous towers to be filled with water to keep these rods cooled off. The energy that can be obtained from the conversion through this nuclear process is quite significant The hydroelectric plants are commonly found next to a dam. As the water passes over the gates, giant turbines inside the plant are being turned, thus the energy from the water is being converted into electricity. Solar plants are not very common, since this method is relatively new.

Large solar panel collectors that are set in the direct sun create this type of energy, thus these panels collect the energy that the sunray's give off, and are again sent to a facility that converts this type energy into electricity. Though there are many different methods being developed to attempt to convert different substances into electricity, consumption is still very much overriding the amount we can currently produce. One issue with the methods some people think up is the question Is it environmentally friendly? The aftermath of an easier method of production might lead to the quicker depletion the earth itself in what form or fashion. Im sure that there have been a lot of different theories and idea, although a lot of them were abandoned because sadly the method itself would slowly kill the earth.

It might eventually get to the point where the world will have to regress in some conveniences, just so they can exist period. So, people in general should try there hardest to save electricity since there is no need in drastic sacrifice to make a difference. Household, etc. Many aspects of our daily lives depend on electricity. People living in the US in particular, have developed and use many devices every day. One of the most important is the computer, which without electricity would be completely useless, most likely like a lot of people in your present company.

This device as effected our lives so much that our nation would collapse without their assistance. It is sad though, that a plastic box has replaced what used to be defined as knowledge. Although, over and above that thought, the world would not be able to progress very quickly at all without them. The first thought of electricity in the homes though, is that of appliances such as dishwashers, toasters, washing machines, and other devices that require inserting a wire into the wall to save endless hours of labor. Electric ovens, microwaves, and food processors help us prepare food much more easily and quickly, unless youre a native Grantmountainer, you might prefer the fire and folk tale (gossip) method better.

The heating and cooling units powered by electricity help us stay comfortable as the seasons change, while some also provide hot water. The TV, radio, CD player, are just a few of the electronic conveniences that help keep us occupied (from going mad with our spouse, family, etc. ) and satisfy our needs to keep in touch with the outside world. Lighting is also a feature that helps us live normally through the nighttime hours. Living comfortably is not always an option though; the uses of electricity in medicine and science are also endless. Healthcare workers use many, many different electrical devices to conduct different practices. X-rays, MRI, and ultrasound are just a few ways that electricity used as a function to view inside our bodies.

Scientists also have an endless and usually the most amazing electronic equipment to whatever type research their field requires. As in the case of a microbiologist, who uses an instrument called a scanning electron microscope to learn about living cells. In the case of a physicist, the use of an electronically operated particle accelerator, to probe the centers of atoms. As well in the case of an astronomer, the electric motors in their huge telescopes would make virtually impossible to use them accurately. The instances of electronics are used through involuntary practices at home and in the workplace is an endless topic (just like how someone as annoying as David Webb can exist) that could be summed up by saying we could almost not survive without it. SHOCK! ! ! ! !

One of the first things that come to mind when electricity is brought up is shock. The electric current passing through your body causes this. The most primitive of ways to explain how the theory of being electrocuted works, is that normally the electrical signals travel along the nerves, carrying information to and from your brain. These signals regulate heartbeat and other vital functions. When the electric current from an outlet, etc. passes through your body it interrupts these signals and can cause muscle contractions, heart and respiratory failure, and death (can also be caused by excessive eye contact with VP Bonds nose. ).

The current can also burn skin and other bodily tissues. Voltage measures the push of electrical energy to move a charge through a circuit. The voltage of a flashlight, or radio battery is too small to cause serious injury. But, the 120 volts available at most wall outlets could severely injure or even kill a person. The danger of electric shock is much greater when a persons skin is wet, because water when mixed with salt from the skin, lowers the bodys electrical resistance. A given voltage can then pass a greater current through the body.

The risks of electrocution are high in the bathroom, aside from being wet, is the appliances used in the room. The famous hair dryer, with its exposed current, is extremely dangerous. If placed in water that youre in contact with living s almost out of the question. The fact that space is an issue for a lot of people is an issue, so unplugging while not in use could be lifesaving. Another safety tip, outside the no contact with exposed wiring rule, is that of no using instruments with cords that have any sort of bad connection, and exposed wires.

Also, in a broader sense, just never leave any electronic device, etc. on that you are not using for many reasons of which are fire hazard, shock, and conservation of energy. Reference Page 1. World Book Encyclopedia (disk) 2000 edition electricity 2.
