What has our society come to these days? Violence is present everywhere around us; in the streets, school, and even at home. Violence can now be seen in many peoples living rooms while they are sitting down watching television. Even if one appears to be a pacifist, violence will find its way into our homes through the television. Violence on television proves to be a root of violence in the whole culturally developed countries, but also in Macedonia.

There are many examples and proven research that shows how violence viewed on television uproots all over our country. Children and teenagers seem to be the most effected by violence on television. Some children that see violence on television are pulled into its harmful rules of problem solving. Many things should be done to change childrens view on television and how much violence should be on the television.

Scientists have tried to explain why children are so entertained by a big glowing box and the action that takes place within it. Research shows that television is a big source of violence for children. This research shows us that violence appeals to every audience, including children. The effects have been seen in a number of cases. Children today act and dress older than they are. The fact remains that they still are children.

The children that watch Barney and sing along and have a great time learn to love one another. The children who watch Power Rangers begin to kick each other and fight because that is what they are seeing on television. We should sit down and explain to our kids that the Power Rangers are trained actors and actresses. They are actually not hitting and kicking each other.

Watching violence makes children act violently. As long as children see it being done, they are going to do it also. Children imitate everything they see. Some teenagers go to violent movies and listen to heavy metal and rap music.

Some teens argue that they have not killed anyone. These teens are missing the point. Television teaches teens to handle their problems in the wrong way. Some ways include arguing, hitting, and initiating other violent behavior-sometimes, even sometimes killing. What we should be concerned about is also the disconnection from the parents and the lack of respect for authority. Parents need to take charge and know where their children are and what they are doing.

If the kids have no respect and their heads are filled with evil, violence, and sex, why is anyone surprised about this horrible behavior? When children and teens watch all the violence on television, they might forget that it is pretend and think of it as reality. Some people might not blame a childs pastime in front of the TV, but it must be pointed out that all of children claimed to have seen a similar act on television. We should not hold television directly responsible for these acts, but understand that it is television that plants a violent seed in the minds of these children. Many psychologists and psychiatrists feel that continued exposure to such violence might unnaturally speed up the impact of the adult world on the child. This can force the child into a kind of premature maturity.

As the child matures into an adult, he can become confusing, and even losing the wish to become an adult (Carter 14). Others see television as an unhealthy imposition into a childs learning process, substituting easy pictures for the discipline of reading and concentrating and transforming the young viewer into a hypnotized non-thinker (Langone 48). As we can see, television violence can disrupt a childs learning and thinking ability, which will cause life long problems. Another reason why television violence causes violence in children is apparent in the big cities. Aggressive behavior was more acceptable in the city, where a childs popularity rating with classmates was not hampered by his or her aggression (Huesmann 166). In yet another piece of research children who watch a lot of violent television were compared to children who dont.

The results were that the children who watched more violent television were more likely to agree that its okay to hit someone if youre mad at them for a good reason. The other group learned that problems can be solved passively, through discussion and authority (Cheney 46). At the end, perhaps the most important way to prevent children from watching television violence is to stop it where it starts. The parents should step in and turn the set off when a violent program comes on. The parents are the childs role models from which he learns. We need to teach our children and teenagers values.

If he can learn at an early age that violence on television is disturbing, then he can turn the set off for himself when he is older. Education should start in the home. As a conclusion, we must accept that it is true that you cannot completely control the lives of the children and the teenagers. It just is not possible, but you can control what goes on in your home. Only when we decide to put and end to this problem as an individual will we begin to see a more peaceful world.
