The book Robinson Crusoe is an adventure story about a man whos bad misfortunes put him alone on a discrete island. This mans name is Robinson Crusoe. Crusoe has to fight through many tough situations with hard conditions in order to survive along with keeping his sanity. Throughout the book Crusoe questions himself, his relationship with God, and his struggle with survival on the island. Some of the key issues in this book have a joint relation to our studying of nature, religion and reason in our class discussions. Religion is one of the main focuses in this book Robinson Crusoe.

Crusoes religious feelings contempt back and fourth in his mind. Some areas in the book his thoughts are high on God, others are very low. However its Crusoes belief in God, and his belief in the gift of life itself that inspire him in his actions on the island. Crusoe grew up with two brothers one of which was a Lieutenant Colonel to an English Regiment of foot in Flanders, and the second brother not know very well of the mother or father. Crusoe was the third son in the family. His father put great pressure and his concern of is sons life being successful in what he wanted, and not what Crusoe wanted.

Many family arguments took place under the Crusoe roof. Crusoe despite his parents wishes wanted to set out to sea. In his action of doing this, Crusoe was told by many people he was not worthy, however this had little effect on his choice. Crusoe sets out to sea and very soon finds himself in trouble.

He had become a slave on a ship. After long hours on the ship Crusoe eventually escapes with ambition, and finds himself starting a sugar plantation in Brazil. After little time on the plantation, Crusoe realizes he needs slaves to help him work the fields. He sets out to sea once again with Africa in his destination for slaves. However, Crusoe did not know this decision would be one of the biggest mistakes of his life. On his sailing to Africa, his ship is wrecked by a dynamic storm that hits the sea that night.

Crusoe finds himself ship wrecked on a deserted island. His entire crew had drowned and he barely had survived the crash. Crusoe called the island, the Island of Despair. He found himself very lonely on the island.

His daily routine was the same everyday. He would eat, work on building a house and try to survive the best way he knew. He kept track of his days by keeping a daily journal. His journal was one of his most important items. I believe when a man is on an island alone, he must do anything active to keep from going insane. While on the island many things went through his head.

Why did God do this to me, was some of the things he asked himself. However despite his weary feeling of awe, his religion grew stronger than ever with the Lord. At one point in the story he reads the bible every day and night before bed. Religion is something that will create many things possible in a mans life. It opens new gateways to your actions in life. However, despite Crusoes initial feeling toward the island and his isolation to humans, little did he know what he was going to come across next.

Crusoe ran into his worse fait yet, when he discovers there is other human life on the island. The others were cannibals! ! Crusoe must once again dig deep down and figure out something to peak his survival and get off the mind boggling island. When all is said and done, Crusoe rescues a few captives of the cannibals and they plan to leave the island. After much planning they overtake a near by ship and sail back to England.

When Crusoe arrives in England he finds a wonderful surprise. His plantation is very successful and he becomes a wealthy man and eventually marries. It is here where he finds his life is complete except for one thing. Crusoes love for adventures in the world. He takes one final voyage to the islands where he spent half of his life and is awaiting his new challenges, and discoveries. The irony of this book is what we talked about in class when we look at reason.

Crusoe did not see how reason came back to haunt him in his own life. I believe God punished Crusoe and put him on that island to think about his situation and make better decisions in future. In explaining this, Crusoe was caught at beginning of book and was a slave on a ship before he escaped. He terribly hated being a slave on that ship. However Crusoe wanted to run his plantation with slaves. He set out to Africa to get this accomplished and he wrecked on the island.

I believe God punished him for this act, and that explains the act of reason in life. In summary this book was very interesting with all the adventures that took place. It intrigued me with the struggle of man vs. man, and man vs. nature itself. Nature is a funny course of events.

We never know what it holds under its eyes. However, Crusoe in this book, overcame many struggles and life long adventures. He proved to himself he did something with his life. He was a successful man, a wealthy man, and a happy man.
