Have you ever dreamed of saving a prince or princess? Dreamed of a land of magic and wonder or ever thought you had magical powers that you are not fully aware of? Well if you have you might want to look in the exciting and magical book Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone. After reading this entrancing fantasy, readers will be convinced that they, too, could take the train to Hogwarts School, if only they could find Platform Nine and Three Quarters at the King's Cross Station (School Library Journal). This book will take you through the life a small boy named Harry Potter and his quest to understand himself and his journeys at Hogwarts school of Wizardry. The book will show his battle with the Dursleys and his cousin Dudley, and with an arrogant boy at school named Draco Malfoy.

At the end he will untimely have to face the very person that killed his parents and tried to kill him, but you will need to read the book to find this out. This book can be classified as a quest because in this book Harry does not fully understand himself, his past, and what he truly will become. Harry also battles between the forces of good and evil; Harry also has a desired goal for himself that he must reach. The opening of this book is when Harry is just a baby, right after the evil dark wizard, Lord Voldemort, killed his parents. Albus Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, and Hagrid took the infant Harry to his aunt and uncle, the Dursleys, house where he grew up for 11 years not knowing that his parents were murdered, and that his parents were both a witch and a wizard. Since both of Harry's parents were magical he also is a wizard but he does not know this un-till his eleventh birthday.

Strange things happen to Harry when he was a child that nobody could explain why these strange things would happen. One time when Harry received a hair cut that made him look hideous he was afraid to go to school the next day, but by the time he woke up the next morning his hair was back to its original uncut shape. Another time he was at the zoo with the Dursleys for Dudley's birthday. Harry was in the reptile area and to his amazement he stated having a conversation with a boa constrictor.

While Harry was talking to the snake Dudley noticed this and was about to tell his parents when all of a sudden the glass that was containing the snake magically disappeared, and the snake started to slither towards Dudley. Whenever these strange and magical things happened to Harry the Dursleys became very upset with him. They know what Harry and his parents were; but they didnt want him to know for fear of embarrassment. Harry does not understand till the day before his eleventh birthday when a letter is addressed to him comes in the mail. Then once the Dursleys would not give him the letter millions of the same letter came to where ever they were at, even if they were not at home. Then one morning a strange giant named Hagrid entered the cabin where they were staying, and Hagrid told Harry the whole story about his parents.

He told Harry of how they were killed and that the Dursleys have been lying to him all these years about what really had happened to his parents. Hagrid also told him that since the day he was born he had a spot reserved for him at the school of Hogwarts. Ever since the day that Lord Voldemort had tried to kill Harry, he has been facing the evil in his stay with the Dursleys. To imagine what Harry went through in those first eleven years picture your life in a small closet underneath the stairs, constant harassment but Dudley and his friends, never having any freedom that a child of his age should have. If you can picture this then you would have a glimpse of Harry's life for eleven years.

The battle with evil does not stop when he arrives at Hogwarts. In his first year at Hogwarts Harry meets an awful first year student named Draco Malfoy; Draco was constantly harassing Harry and his two new friends Ron and Hermione. Draco was always trying to get Harry into trouble any way he could. Draco once challenged Harry and Ron to a duel, but instead of showing up he told Flitch, who was a caretaker at Hogwarts, and really hated students. Harry also has a really nasty teacher named Snape, who teaches them potions. Snape seem to hate Harry and would do anything to have him expelled or at the least make his life completely miserable.

In the end of the book Harry has to battle his true archenemy, Lord Voldemort himself. Harry must stop Lord Voldemort from acquiring the Sorcerers Stone, which can make a potion that will restore Lord Voldemort to his original power. All of these scrapes with death give this book an excellent opportunity for J. K.

Rowling to tell a story of a great journey. Harry's journey begins when Lord Voldemort fails to kill him, after killing his parents. Harry ends up with his mothers sister Aunt Petunia and her husband Uncle Vernon. Here Harry has to withstand what I would consider torture by the Dursleys and there hideous son Dudley. Then he gets a visit from Hagrid who tells Harry of his actual past, and gets him to Hogwarts for school. While at school he make two great friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

These three always seem to end up together in trouble thought the school. Harry learns a new game called Quidich, which he seems to be a natural at this sport. In the end he has to face Lord Voldemort and defeats him yet again. Harry thought the entire book is just trying to find out where he fits into this society of magic. Since Harry is a famous person within this society, it seems that these witches and wizards know more about his past and what he really is then Harry does. So Harry is always just trying to experiences new things and to find out what he really is.

This book is an excellent example of a quest. So if you are looking for a book with magic, fantasy, and great journey you will love Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone. This is a book for all ages. J. K. Rowling has made this book a to read; it will leave you with an eagerness never to put it down.

Harry Potter also has echoes of children's classics Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and C. S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. With the help of a noble if ni twitted giant, a few inept but big-hearted student magicians.

Harry takes on powers bigger and stronger than him. You don't have to be a wizard or a kid to appreciate the spell cast by Harry Potter (Hainer). I am sure if you like such great classic books as Homers Iliad and the Odyssey, which both offer a tale of love, magical creatures, and great adventures, you will enjoy this book.
