Malcolm X is a really interesting person when you get to know him. I was not really interested in Malcolm X when I started off, but as I slowly learned more and more about him he became a really great person. In this paper I will explain his life and try to show you the interesting things I learned. For this research paper I chose to research Malcolm X. I dont know a lot about Malcolm, thats why I picked him. I knew that he was black and a man who helped a lot to free slaves, but I really dont know any details.

I would like to learn about his life and all of his troubles he had when he tried to free his race. I had really good luck when I was looking for information on Malcolm X. I did not run into any problems when I was looking. I was successful in finding info when I went on the Internet. I found plenty of information that helped me write my paper. When we went to the library I found a lot of good books too.

I learned so much about Malcolm X so far. I hope in my speech for this project that I can teach the class as much as I learned about him. I couldnt find that many relations between Malcolm X and To Kill a Mockingbird. The best one I found was that Malcolm was treated a lot like Tom in the book. Malcolm was always made fun of and had an unfair trail that sentenced him to double the time in prison since he was black. In the story Tom was sentenced to death for raping a white woman but he really didnt do it.

It was his word against two other white peoples word. He lost just because he was black. Sort of the same thing happened to Malcolm. I learned so many neat things about Malcolm Xs life I will just start from the beginning.

Malcolm was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 19, 1925. Malcolm's given name when he was born was Malcolm Little. Malcolm's father was a Baptist minister. He highly supported the Universal Negro Improvement Association.

The Ku Klux Klan often harassed Malcolm's family. One time they set fire to Malcolm's house, which force them to move to Lansing, Michigan. After staying in Michigan for a while Malcolm's father was killed. This information I got from the Gale Net Group it his body was severed in two by a streetcar and his head smashed. In his autobiography, written by Alex Haley, Malcolm said his father was killed by the Ku Klux Klan. In other articles it said it was just an accident.

Malcolm's mother was so traumatized by the death of her husband that she was committed to a mental institution. All of Malcolm's bothers and sister were split up and sent to foster homes. Malcolm did not really fit in with his new family, but he was an excellent student and dreamed of being a lawyer one day. His dream was stop though by his white 8 th grade teacher.

He said Malcolm should be more realistic and plan on becoming a carpenter. Malcolm dropped out of school that year and headed to Boston. This is when his life went down. He worked as a waiter for a while then joined up with a gambling operation. There he did drugs like cocaine and marijuana.

He also got into burglary. One night Malcolm organized a burglary on a really rich mans house. He was caught and sent to prison for 10 years to pay for all the crimes that he did. From the movie call Malcolm X, it seemed like Malcolm has given up on his life. He really had no will to live. As the years went by when he was in prison Malcolm started to get to know a Black Muslim that showed him his religion and told him to follow Elijah Muhammad.

Malcolm learned from him and saw a whole new way of living. This was a start to a new life for Malcolm, quoted in the book Seventh Child, by Rodnell P. Collins. When he finished his time in Prison he went to Elijah and ask him to teach him to become a Muslim. Malcolm became a good friend of Elijah Muhammad. He did many speeches get other black people to join.

This is when he changed his name to Malcolm X. According to the interview I had with Liz Majors, the X was a Muslim surname and he wanted to get rid of the slave name Little. Now Malcolm was very strong in his Muslim beliefs. He trusted Elijah Muhammad and would give his life for him at any time. This was about to change. In this Paragraph I found most of this information from the Gale Net web page, Malcolm X.

Malcolm continued preaching for Muhammad. Muhammad sent him on a special mission to create 7 new Muslim temples around the US. Malcolm was preaching so much everyone knew him and loved him. Elijah started to feel that Malcolm had too much power. Muhammad was still acting like Malcolm's friend but behind his back he was talking bad things about him. Malcolm did not notice this for a long time.

He was to control by his work to notice. In December 1963 Muhammad found a reason to rid him self of Malcolm. John F. Kennedy was killed that year and the news press asked Malcolm's opinion about that. He described is as a chickens coming home to roost.

This made him sound that he was happy that John F. Kennedy died. Muhammad was very angry with this and suspended him from being a Muslim and from going to any of the temples for 90 days. Malcolm was ferrous about Muhammad betraying him.

He started a new group named Muslim Mosque, Inc. This had most of the same views, as a regular Muslim just he did not this all white people were devils. Malcolm made a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. There he learned how all-different races could live together in peace. When Malcolm returned he was ready to teach his new views and what he learn in Mecca to his new group he made. Muhammad and his men were angry that Malcolm made his own group and they start to harassed him and threaten his life.

Muhammad sent him men to fire bomb Malcolm's home. Malcolm and his family barley escaped. This is when Malcolm stated fearing about this live. His life was frequently endanger. Malcolm was getting more phone threats then ever. A week later after the firebomb in his house he was preparing to give a speech to hundreds of his followers in the Harlem Audubon Ballroom.

He was going to tell was has happened to the Muslim Nation and what his new group his going to do. As Malcolm walked up to the podium and began to speak, 3 men stood up and shooting at him. The man with the shotgun shot him twice in the stomach and then the other two men ran up and fired at him on the ground. In the end, Malcolm was shot 19 times and died 10 minutes later. Everyone was shocked by his death.

His wife did not know what to do. His life made an impact on everyone. He made a big difference in how blacks are treated today. I learned so much by researching Malcolm X. His life was very interesting.

It was really neat to see a man go from being a drug addict to being a national speaker for the black race.
