Everyone knows that something needs to be done about safety in public schools. Whether its metal detectors at the doors, or policemen in the halls, something needs to be done. I think that we could solve all of the hate and anger problems quite easily by adding a Religion Class. This Religion Class could be and extracurricular reminder of what is right and what is wrong. Not only would it unite our schools and districts, but also it would bring more peace to the classrooms. These are just a few things that bringing religion into our schools would do for us.
Its a pretty easy and simple change for all the benefits it would bring, dont you think? First of all, this minor step wouldnt even need to change how the schools operate. The Religion Classes, could be extracurricular. This means that the classes would be either before or after school.
The teachers would need no new training because these classes could be student lead. We currently have a weekly lunchtime religion / prayer group called First Priority, but having a daily class would allow us to learn and study religion more deeply. Neither moving nor shuffling of classes would need to take place this way (Slowly P. 38). Sure, some people may not want to have these types of classes due to the differences in beliefs; however, there would be a variety of classes taught on a variety of different religions. This would be done to insure no group would be left out. Also these classes would be optional.
No one would be required to attend any of them. Next, for those that have a belief in god, or any other religion base, these classes would give them a chance to evaluate themselves, and for those that dont, this could help them to not only find one, but to see what other kids their age are doing with theirs. Just as Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, we too could also understand that we are no better than anyone. Everyone needs to learn that at some point in their life. Daily classes on religion would help to humble us, as well as to keep us on the right path. It would be a great daily reminder for everyone.
The dictionary defines evangelism as the winning or reveal of personal commitments to Christ. As Billy Graham once said, Evangelism is a great thing, and we are great people to do it. This is true, and the people that know the truth can help others to see it too. I feel that is exactly what our schools need; we need to reach out to the people that need help. People would also have the access to many different religions, and thus would gain knowledge of many religious backgrounds that they otherwise may not be able to learn about.
As president Clinton said, Religion is too important in our history and our heritage to keep out of public schools (Taylor). This in itself is huge. Not only was religion the building blocks of our country, but it also held our country together through tough times. Religion in schools would allow us to grow bonds through scripture as well as through interaction with each other. Nothing will bring people together like church or religion in general (Drinian P. 96 - 98). I think it is very true.
Therefore religion should be in schools for those who want to attend. Religion would also bring more peace to the schools (Doer P. 36 - 37). With more friendships being made, that would bring fewer fights, and fewer arguments. As you can see there are many great reasons to support bringing religion into the schools.
Even if less fighting and fewer arguments were the only pluses to having religion in schools, it would be worth it. Any type of a religion class in our schools would have so many benefits, with very little change needed. It would help us stay on the right path. It would unite our schools, and it would also help to diminish the anger that we all deal with everyday (Bryce P. 26). We wouldnt even need to change how things are being done now. These classes could be student lead to keep the teachers from having to be educated in these areas.
They would also be extracurricular, so no class times would need to change. There are just so many pluses, that I really think religion should be taught in schools all over the country, and even all over the world.
