The Hobbit written by J. R. R. Tolkien, is a famous tale of fantasy. This book appeals to almost all ages. The Hobbit is full of mystical creatures, daring adventures, and many exciting characters like giant spiders, orcs, shapeshifter's, elves, was, and a dragon.

The Hobbit is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins. He sets out on a journey with a wizard and thirteen other dwarves. One the way many different and exciting things happen. They all leave their homes to help Thorin retrieve the treasure that was taken over by Smaug, the evil dragon.

J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit is so well written that it makes people want to read the entire trilogy (Lord of the Rings). No other fantasy fiction author gives as strong descriptions of environments, characters and story as well as Tolkien. Bilbo Baggins is the one who leads the Dwarves to the Lonely Mountain to find their treasure.

In all this confusion, Bilbo discovers within himself a vast amount of strength and courage. The book begins with Bilbo Baggins enjoying a pipe after breakfast. Gandalf, a wizard, stops by to have a chat with Bilbo. He informs Bilbo that he is looking for someone to go on an adventure with him. The next day, Bilbo hears his doorbell and he remembers inviting Gandalf for tea, but instead of the wizard at the door, there is a group of dwarves-thirteen in all. Their names are Dealing, Balin, Kill, Fili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Going, Bifur, Bombur, Bombur and Thorin.

Thorin, son of the dwarf king, outlines a plan on how to regain the treasure stolen by the dragon Smaug. Bilbo is shocked to find out that these plans involve him! The quest begins when they venture into the Lone-lands. When it starts to pour, they stop to investigate a light. There Bilbo finds three trolls bickering over food.

Bilbo decides to live up to his title of the burglar, and attempts to pickpocket one of the trolls. However, they quickly capture him. The dwarves see whats going on and try to save poor Bilbo. All of them except Thorin are caught. Thorin formulates a plan to free them but fails. Gandalf returns and occupies the trolls till dawn, then they turn into stone.

The next morning, the group heads toward the Misty Mountains. A storm has caused them to seek shelter in a cave. The cave, however, turns out to be an entrance to the goblin kingdom. Once again the group is captured.

Only Gandalf is free, and he slays the goblin King, and again frees the party from being killed, yet Bilbo is left behind. He awakens to find himself in one of the many tunnels that the goblins make. He made his way to an underwater lake and discovered a ring on an island in the lake. He found out the ring made him invisible. In the lake also lived a creature name Gollum. Gollum is a creature that eats other people.

Gollum approached Bilbo and Bilbo told him he desired to find a way out. They played a riddle game and if Bilbo won, he would live. Well, of course he won but Gollum still wanted to eat him, but Bilbo slipped the ring on and became invisible and escaped. He meets up with his friends again outside of the cave. Now they are headed off to the dreaded forest of Mirkwood.

After a while, and other adventures, they finally make it into Mirkwood. It is here when Bombur falls into the black river and falls into a sleep from which he cannot wake. Bilbo agains finds himself separated from the group and this is when he meets the frightful giant spiders. Bilbo goes to save his friends from the same giant spiders.

After saving his friends, they all venture to the Lonely Mountain. Quickly they find the hidden back entrance to Smaug's lair. Bilbo puts on his ring and goes to confront the dragon. He notices that on Smaug's underbelly there is a place that is not covered by his iron-like scales. Smaug, however, is thoroughly angry about his little invisible friend and heads to destroy Lake-town. A thrush (a bird that talks) told Bard (the captain of the archers) that Smaug has a weak spot in his breast.

Bard used his black arrow to slay the beast. The townspeople then decided to make him king of Lake-town. With Smaug dead, the men and elves go to claim his treasure. Dwarf troops under Thorin's kinsman also appear.

Their bickering was soon changed to alliance when the was and Goblins approached and so began the battle of the Five armies. During the battle, Thorin is hurt and Bilbo gets knocked unconscious by falling on rocks. The Was and goblins were soon vanquished. Bilbo later returned to his home under the hill with a chest full of treasure, a ring of power, and a heart full of adventure. Fantasy can effectively teach us about reality. There are morals, lessons, and themes to be found within the text that can help us gain knowledge and live our lives more productively.

Bilbo took a stand and got up enough courage to do something he had never thought of doing before, going on a great adventure. This caused Bilbo to become brave. It also created many experiences that made him a wiser person. Thorin's selfish act of not wanting to share the dragons riches with the towns citizens lead to only bad events.

This teaches us that kindness and giving to others will not only benefit them, but help them in life. Their experiences teach that it is wise to listen to those with more knowledge than us. It is likely that they have been in our situation before and have experienced it before. Even though The Hobbit is fictional, people can learn much about reality and the morals that it contains. When beginning to read The Hobbit it seems to be very boring and not interesting. The character development is slow and it doesnt seem to keep people interested.

When getting into the novel the characters begin to develop quickly and with great information behind each one. With Mr. Baggins begins the story of the hobbits and how long they have lived in their hobbit hole. When the dwarves finally come into the story with the backgrounds of all of them the adventures begin. When Bilbo starts out he is a quiet, leave me alone, kind of hobbit.

Mr. Baggins weakness is his lack of desire to go out and live his life to the fullest. Meanwhile, Thorin shows his selfish act of not wanting to share the riches with the other citizens and showing how greed gets you nothing in the end. Within these weakness and conflicts with the other races the travels caused famine, loss of direction, and uneasiness between the characters. Though fourteen of the main characters are not entirely weak, they all have their bad points too. Bilbo Baggins receives a lot of strength and courage out of all of this.

It is not all bad he learns a lot and gets a lot out of his adventure with his friends and finds out just how wrong he was about adventures. Throughout the book, Bilbo gains courage like when he saved the dwarves from the giant spiders and led them to defeat the dragon Smaug. Bilbo gets a lot out of his trip-he gets a new ring of power and a chest full of treasure. Bilbo is not the only one with strength.

Bombur, one of the dwarves was always keeping up Bilbo's esteem by helping him out with things since Bilbo was smaller and more helpless. Bombur was the one to stay with Bilbo and talk to him and not treat him like he was not wanted. Gandalf and Beorn both have a strength that is magical. Gandalf is a wizard who comes to help at the most needed times and Beorn is a creature that can turn into a man and a bear at any time. With all these strengths the book of fantasy and comedy becomes even more alluring.

This book was very interesting and exciting, it draws you in and keeps your attention. The Hobbit contains comedy, drama, suspense and adventure for your satisfaction. After reading The Hobbit you get a sense of reality in the characters that isnt presented in all fantasy books. The Hobbit is one of the best fantasy fiction books around. When reading the novel, it is the kind of book that once picked up cant be put down. This book is the best to come and recommended to be in all homes.

For the best feel of the book it needs to read so go and read it now.
