Setting The story the Iliad takes place on the battlefields of the city of Troy. The people of troy know the feeling of war very well they battle between the Trojans and Acherons. The war has been going on for over 9 years, and the feud has not yet ended. It has always been thought that if you could take the city of troy you would be give great honor when you return to your homeland. The book starts off with the begging feuded between the great Achilles and king Agamemnon, he threatens to take captive of one of his chiefs of Achaian. Achilles was ready to strike but he decided to take an oath and not fight so he could let king Agamemnon see how valuable he was on the battlefield wail he watched his men suffer.

So later that night Zeus sent king Agamemnon a message in his dream that it is the time for the Achaians to attack. But the men of Achilles thought differently after hearing about the quarrel that he had with Achilles, so they called him a coward and took no regard to what he said. Hector leader of the Trojans prepares his men for war but before he sends Helen too the front lines were Menelaus and Paris will fight for her hand in marriage. Both sides will soon embark on one of the most largest battle ever. Characters Achilles: Achilles was the most honorable fighter in all of the men he never depended on the gods to help him win. He has the soul and spirit to fight with all of his might and he never takes the easy way to win.

He had already fought his battles before, so he does not fight just for the fame he fights for the passion and the emotion of the battle. So his presence on the battlefield was an inspiration to the other men on the battlefield. He was like a god of honorable war and never took advantage of his title. He truly one of the greatest worrier's of his time. Hector: Hector was the juxtapose to Achilles, he just took the easy roads claiming things that had won when really he did only finished what one man had started. He took advantage of his title and talked more then he would do.

His victory's were all helped from the gods and always asked for more help when wounded. He would pray to the gods as if he was running to him mommy. He was a child in a big boy body. He only held up the image that he was a great worrier and made the people of Troy believes that he was, he was a master of deception. His only talent was praying to the gods to get them on his side and help him be victorious. He truly was a shallow character with no honor or ever to act shivery once when fighting.

Central conflict The main conflict in this book is the fighting between Hector and Achilles after he had killed his best friend Patroclos. Hector had only just finished him but he got the honor, he took the armor the Patroclos wore but he did not do it the honorable way, he dragged the body behind his horses and then striped him of his title. When Achilles got word of this he was out rage a great wall of fury and vengefulness came over him. Although he could not got straight to battle he had to find new armor, for Patroclos was wearing his and it was now in the hands of Hector. Hephaistos was the first person to whom his mother went to get him new armor. He was honored that he would be able to make Achilles armor.

So he made him the most strongest and beautiful armor any man has set eyes on. It would be the most gracious thing Achilles would receive for that lasting of his life. It would surely be one of the things that would help him win his fight against Hector. So he armed himself and set out to the battlefields with his rage and fury for the death of Patroclos. As he ran throw the battlefield, killing anyone who gets in his way he slowly makes his way toward Hector were he will find his destiny. Theme The theme of this book is the one who takes, as little from other so he can win truly is the wise one for in the end he will enjoy himself.

For he will have the most greatest prize of all and truly be satisfied with himself. But the one, who takes the easy road leaching off of others and depending on his friends and gods for help to secede, he will be remorse and unfulfilled. Recommendation I think that anyone who enjoys war novels will like this book. It toys with emotions and thought in the depth of war. Many great men that have resin, will fall and the gore will over take you with deception. It has many dynamics to it and only few will truly catch it others it will go whoosh.

I hope that in the end of the book u will yawp from Achilles.
