Many students disagree with the graduated license system that the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles has implemented. This is true in Added Grafton High School but is it really wrong the answer isnt as clear cut as it might seem. To find an answer to a complicated question such as this one must look at it from many perspectives. There are three main view points on this matter the young driver, the parents, and the states each view point should be taken into count when looking into the subject. The first and most widely expressed view is that of the beginning driver effected by the new law there are two sides those who dont agree with it and those who do. Those who disagree seem to most commonly say it is taking away their rights and freedoms but in reality it only limits their freedoms.
The effected drivers are limited their time that they may drive unsupervised to between five in the morning when no normal teen should ever be awake in my opinion and nine at night witch is early to most teens either because of jobs or other reasons. Again there are reasons for complaints but the law had foresight enough to allow a restricted driver to drive strait form work home. The teens who say this is fair often seem to be those who seem more responsible and feel that they arent being deprived of any thing that others arent. A common response when asked about the law is I can get what I have to do done in time so it doesnt bother me. This opinion however is not widely expressed. The second view on the matter is that of the parent the majority of parents feel that the laws restricting new drivers is a good thing.
Many parents feel that the laws keep their children out of trouble or that it prevents accidents. There are however those who say that their children will get in trouble any way and that the accidents will happen regardless. The majority of parents actually believe that their child gains responsibility but this has not been proven. The final and most dominating view is that of the state and the D.
M. V. the way they see it is that new drivers dont have the responsibility to handle driving after nine. The state said that its reasoning for these new laws is to protect younger drivers they say that children are fatigued and are less sharp behind the wheel. The state did this in the hope that this would reduce young accidents and fatalities this new system has not been in place long enough to prove one side or the other but regardless the state is sticking to their guns. The reality of the fact is that new drivers are involved in more accidents yearly than any other group of drivers on the roads in the United States to day.
A further truth is that it is not always teens responsible for those accidents it is other irresponsible drivers that are responsible for the accident that is one of the key reason for the laws. It is a proven fact that there are more drivers that are driving recklessly on the roads after nine so the nine oclock restriction is meant to protect inexperienced drivers. Finally this restriction dose not create drivers that are more responsible just drivers that are willing to brake the law for freedom they believe is being taken from them.
