The pollution in the air can be carried for hundreds of kilometers by the wind before it is precipitated, and can carry the damage a long way from the source of pollution.
Acid rain is most damaging where the environment cannot neutralize the acids, especially in the industry developed area. The acid rain is a strong corrosive. As lakes become acid, the wild plants and animals in them suffer. They cant live there any more.
