The image of Jesus can be viewed from many different perspectives. Each individual person has developed his or her own images of Jesus the Christ. Every individual has been shaped or formed in some way, whether they comprehend it or not. We have all had individuals enter and exit throughout our lives that have made a significant impact on us, explaining who we are and our future destiny.

Being a Christian, clearly, one of the individuals that have entered and made a significant impact in my life is Jesus Christ. He is one who performs miracles and teaches in parables. But, most importantly, he has brought his teaching aspect into my life recently. I have learned many different lessons over the last year of my life, and have begun to understand where his teachings are taking me. The aspects of Jesus and how they are implicated in my life is one of the most important lessons that I can learn from my mentor. Obviously, we view almost everything that Jesus says or does as a miracle.

His life and in fact how he was born is a remarkable and welcome event that seems impossible to explain by means of the known laws of nature and is therefore attributed to a supernatural agency (78). In order to receive a miracle of God, there must be openness to his power. Without this openness, we cannot experience his power. This openness can be known as the gift of faith.

Do we believe in Jesus, and if we do, this faith is a miracle within itself. It is offered to all that is willing to receive and nurture it. And, once it is received, it offers new vision and new perspective whereby one may be receptive to the power of God working among people and in the world (95). Faith is the willingness to recognize the power of God in operation. In this operation and the receiving of faith, is what is adequate in miracles. Jesus' ultimate miracle was his resurrection.

Death was overcome when Jesus of Nazareth was raised from the dead and glorified as Son of God and Savior (97). His followers viewed him in a different light, and for some reason, when he was resurrected, they believed that he was their risen Lord. Jesus taught his followers by example, and designed his miracles to reveal his Christian faith and his openness to every individual human being. The miracles of Jesus give us a sense of hope. Christians believe in this sense of hope, because we believe that Jesus himself is a miracle, and by reading the bible, he performed miracles as an everyday event. Brennan Hill gives us four ways to categorize miracles; healing, exorcisms, raising of the dead, and the nature miracles.

In the healing miracles, Jesus reveals himself as caring for God's world and God's creatures. Exorcisms can be viewed as healing miracles, in a sense. For example, in order to be exorcised, God needs to free the evil forces that control the individual. In order for God to free the evil forces, we need to believe in God's power. The end result is God healing the individuals who are possessed by the evils if they believe.

Regarding the raising of the dead category, we have already discussed how one of the most important miracles that Jesus encountered was his resurrection. This type of miracle brought hope and a new sense of life to his followers. Jesus is the source of that hope and life and what is to come. Finally, the nature miracles are often viewed from the sense of the creation stories. Creation is sacred, and we are called to be stewards over the earth and partners in the creative process (97). The kingdom of God was at the very center of Jesus' message.

The purposes of his miracles were to complement this message with actions that dramatically revealed the presence of the kingdom (90). Jesus taught that God's reign of love and salvation were near at hand, and miracles made this visible through the presence of God's loving care and healing. Yet, he was not always known as just a teacher, but as a prophet and healer too. He often gave his own point of view based on his own unique opinion. These opinions were often, more or less, educated opinions, for he was educated and had listened to many experts at the synagogue.

His reference though, seems to be everyday life, and this is a major reason why he has connected with so many people today. Also, his good news was for all to hear. He would often draw large crowds when he was in public. But most importantly, he offered his wisdom to everyone, including the sinners, outcastes, and oppressed.

There are many aspects of Jesus' teachings. One of the most distinctive aspects of his teachings is his prophetic dimension. Meaning, he was a teacher who seemed to have a mission to speak for God. A prophet can be defined as an individual who served as visionaries and conscience, constantly bringing his people back to truth (63).

They were humans who could look at the situation from God's perspective and spoke out passionately against abuses to freedom. They showed a love and pathos toward their people, offering them a hopeful future if they would but change their ways (63). Jesus spoke with much more of a personal authority than did the prophets before him, and instead of bringing a message from God, he seemed to describe his intimacy with God, one that he felt was available to all. He reminds us that Gods love is constant and eternal and to be aware that God's love is gracious and merciful to all, especially to the outcasts and sinners.

Jesus proclaimed that God cared deeply for all of us and we view this through his prophetic symbols. They were expressed in the healing of miracles, meals with the outcastes, feasts given in masses and finally, his refusal to back down even though it meant his death. Sharing, wholeness, self-sacrifice, and hope in face of sin, suffering, and death were also known as the symbols of Jesus' teachings. Jesus insisted in his teachings that the kingdom of God is here and now. It is best experienced in everyday life, but can be seen best through the poor, who depend on God for survival. Immediacy, urgency and nearness are at the very heart of Jesus' teachings, as well as, knowing the kingdom has a presence and power that will prevail over...
