... he wanted to do in childhood and the suppressive attitude of his parents that also took pronounced notice in his trials, Aleister Crowley suddenly opened up a door, which has been ajar for centuries, in a manner that the Transcendentalists did towards God; the door was leading to a world of hedonism: a world full of pleasure with no strings of guilt attached; and nearly no rules. There, behind the door stands Aleister's self. In Transcendentalism, the only thing attained to the self is to try to understand without questioning, to meditate, to be close to nature; the Satanic self, however, is rather an active role, whom the world demands to take action, to discover and to question. What enforces the motivation for this practices, however, resembles that in Transcendentalism; free will. Contrary to the common prejudice that Satanism required the sick minds of troubled people to be brainwashed and made devoted in all ways to the left-hand path, as one of the most notorious leader in Satanism, Crowley based both his writings and his poetry on the foundation of free will, which, in fact, was his sole condolence both in his horrible crime acts and against the dogmatic nature of religions.
To sum up, however, the extravaganza of his style and the nearly over-exposed anti-Christ and anti-Convention attributes prevents the readers eyes from seeing the self truly clear; and even from wanting to see the self truly clear, since what the mind visualizes in literal means is horrible: his poetry includes acts of homosexuality, pedophilia, Bestiality and necrophiliac cannibalism: White Stains [] To gnaw thy hollow cheeks, and pull Thy lustful tongue from out it's sheath; To wallow in the bowels of death, And rip thy belly, and fill full My hands with all putridities; To chew thy dainty testicles; To revel with the worms in Hell's Delight in such obscenities; [] 1898 During his time (12 October 1875 1 December 1947), the only venues where his influence was strongly felt were, of course, the occult foundations (The Asylum Argentina (Silver Star), Golden Dawn, Ordo Temple Oriented and Thelema foundations), juicy third-page news and literature circles, where he got the names The Great Beast, The Wickedest Man in the World. His German disciple tried to give Hitler a copy of the Book of the Law. However, I must note that these could never be proven. The reason why Aleister Crowley did not participate in the world matters or social conditions, in my modest theory, lies behind his very motto: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. " He simply did not believe in wars, political issues, social problems etc, since for him, only his will was utterly important and valid and since the Satan bid him that his servants be few, he did not feel the need to interact with or encourage other people. However, this may count for the reason why his work are still prominent and remain valid for the followers of Left-Hand path, whereas Anton Szandor La Vey turned himself into a popular-culture icon due to his over-interaction with the world through cinema. From artistic point of view, the Satanist pieces of poetry does follow a similar path of style in general; although the essence of their poetry depends on the dark creativity of imagination, and although they claim freedom for their minds through their works, the meters and rhymes are in proper places, as we can see from Aleister's Hymn to Lucifer. However, for the number of lines Per stanza generally changes throughout the poem, which can be inferred from the various bodies of poetry in Book of Law.
Apart from form, when we come to the question of artistic tendencies, the main aim seems to be to reflect the overwhelming frenzy experienced through the freedom of will in the most shocking, irritating and striking was as possible. Although the public generally accuse the occult foundations of brainwashing which is mostly true for the new foundations such as Satanic Church, but not from the literary point of view -, the works presented both in the past and now by people of darker tendencies do not appear particularly in the effort of attracting weaker minds, but merely putting into words their darker perception of the world, their mostly contradictory view of God and Satan and the ecstasy of the freedom they claim through their beliefs. Sara German, 2002 Although one cannot truly say that Satanists as a minority were faced with the hardships posed to Blacks or Women, the prejudiced attitude and the misunderstanding can clearly be seen in the lives of leading Satanists. Moreover, their hedonist approach to the world and mysterious and probably weird practices, made it all easier for the world to look down on these people with ready disgust; however, as we can infer from the starting point of Crowley's rebellion, the harder the world tries to suppress different minds, the father it gets with the hidden and sometimes hideous practices that these different minds take up in order to be accepted. Despite the notoriety Aleister Crowley and others pose towards the public eye, their influence can even now be seen on online circles, where satanic poetry still persists mostly with the younger generation.
