Autumn; The season that above all others can be so eloquently compared to my own life. Every element is noticeable as I walk through the yellow and orange forests, the cold of the air held in the bracing gusts of wind; cold that sinks below your clothes, even your skin, where it resides until warmth can be once more restored. The grey, clouded sky, bloated with rain hangs over me, as does the knowledge of life I keep. The falling of the leaves, slow, gradual but eventual none the less as the cycle of life and death we so rapidly approach.
The light shines through the golden leaves as they reach the epitome of their beauty before they are reaped from the branch and fall upon the ground, red, as the blood of the earth, until the breeze steals it away, never to return to veins that so desperately need them. For so long the cold has slept beneath my crust and no measure of fire can ever remove it. My leaves, my blood, drained away in swirls of colour and light as the realities of inevitability slowly inflict their wounds upon my flesh. Now my leaves have all but fallen, there is no blue sky on the horizon of my mind and my heart feels as though it will soon be enveloped in ice. I can feel deaths approach and know I cannot stop it, as I cannot stop the changing of the seasons. But all is not lost, as once autumn and winter have passed; we are presented with emerald spring and summer once more.
Death and decay are replaced with rebirth and life as the cycle of seasons continues for evermore. Except for me there is no rebirth, no cycle and as the last of my strength leaves me I enter an endless winter of discontent, as I am sure there will be no glorious summer for man.
