CHARACTER DESCRIPTION Romeo & Juliet. One a Capulet and the other a Montague they share a love that is forbidden by their name alone Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. These are the two star crossed lovers who will cause not only the death of many others but also themselves. Lord/ Lady Capulet The parents of the young lady Juliet. Her father has most control over the decisions upon his daughters future. His thoughts were to delay her marriage to Paris at first, but he suddenly changes his mind for as soon as possible.

Lord/ Lady Montague These are the parents of the young lover Romeo. They have little control over his affairs with other women, and as result Romeo was free to go for any lady he saw fit until he saw Juliet that is. Mercutio This quick witted man is a friend to Romeo. His jokes however lead him to a sword duel with Tybalt, and his somewhat accidental death. Tybalt Cousin to Juliet who despises the Montague's especially Romeo.

His killing of Mercutio leads to another fight with Romeo and will loose his life. Benivolio This is the cousin of Romeo. He stands by his cousins side through the whole tragedy along with Mercutio. Nurse Servant of the Capulets and Juliet since before her birth. She assists Juliet and Romeo in keeping their forbidden love a secret.

Friar Laurence This holy man will assist the two lovers in their plan to marry and escape Verona. However his deeds will help lead to these two lovers ends. Paris Fine man of wax who seeks to marry Juliet before she and Romeo ever met. PLOT Many a people roam the streets of Verona each one finding and seeking that love that is greater than any other. However two very special people will be struck by the blind bow boy with wings with a love stronger than any other person can imagine. The young boy Romeo Montague and the fair young lady Juliet Capulet each fell for the other as soon as their eyes met.

However their names are to curse them their love for each other and those around who love them. They come from two very powerful families in the streets of Verona each with the utmost disgust for the other. Keeping their love in secret from their families will be hard, but being able to keep that love alive is to be even harder. Their eyes met upon the night of a Masquerade ball at the house of Lord Capulet. This would also be the night they formed a love that both would rather die than be without. However this was too little to late for the father of Juliet has announced to move the wedding between Juliet and Paris to this Thursday morning.

The loves think of everything to find anyway to keep this from becoming true. However others would not like to see the love between these two occur also. The cousin of Juliet Tybalt sees Romeos intentions the night of the Masquerade, and he will fight Romeo to the death to stop this. Romeo does not seek to fight him though as he and Juliet secretly were married by Friar Laurence and now Romeo considers him family.

Mercutio however does seek to fight with Tybalt. Though Romeo tries to keep this from happening, and by mistake Tybalt stabs Mercutio. This leads to Romeo becoming infuriated and he then fights with Tybalt and Tybalt is then killed. These events are all taken to the Prince who declares that Romeo be banished from Verona. Both Romeo and Juliet cannot bare the thought of not ever being able to see the other again.

Juliet seeks Friar Laurence's help on this matter, and they create a ploy for the two be reunited once again. She will take a potion on the Eve before her wedding that will make others believe that she has died. Friar will tell Romeo how she will then awaken soon so that they may steal away under the cover of night. However Juliets father has grown angry with Juliet and moves her wedding day to the coming Wednesday. This causes Friar to fail to warn Romeo in time, and when news of the death of his love Juliet reaches him he heads for Verona with a bottle of Poison. As he reaches the tomb he finds Paris already there and Paris and he duel.

Romeo then kills Paris and enters the Capulet Tomb to see Juliets body. As he sees her lifeless like body lying on in the tomb he becomes distraught, and says his goodbyes to her and takes his poison. Juliet soon awakes after the death of Romeo, to Friar Laurence who tries to make her escape the tomb. She then sees Romeos body and will not leave his side. Thus unable to get any poison from his lips she takes his dagger and thrusts it through her own heart. The two families come to see this scene of good intentions gone wrong.

The two families realize what the cost of their ignorance now is. Point Of View Through out the book the view was done from a third person point of view. This allowed you to see more of what was going on all around the characters of this story. Though you cannot see what really is going on in all the characters thoughts as the story begins to develop. This doesnt allow you to really understand the kind of love these two shared for one another until the end when the two had killed themselves for the other. Setting The setting of this tragedy takes place in the rarely quite streets of Verona.

Here you will find wars often break out between the two families sending the whole city into large panics and civil war. This is not just a place of hate thought this is also a place of love where Romeo and Juliet will meet one another. These cobble stoned streets are home to the rich the poor and Royalty. Youll find many places of worship and the streets are lined with markets.

During the day people flood the streets in the Bazaar and Church. At night youll a quieter city, but for the occasional party at Lord Capulets Manor. All of this is in the small fair city of Verona around the renaissance time period. A time before guns and canons, this was a time of rebirth in Europe.

He men fought and died by the sword as many will in the coming events of this sad tale. MOOD The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet sets in many moods while you read it. The character of Mercutio is there for the humor of the play. His quick witted remarks and constant teasing of the nurse make his role set the role of humor in the story. There are also times of anger such as when Tybalt killed Mercutio, and Romeo set out for his revenge upon him. This made you feel for the loss of Mercutio and also create some hat toward Tybalt.

Sadness was a major mood of the story. In times such as when Mercutio dies, the banishment of Romeo, and the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. These played large roles in the creation of sadness for the audiences, and readers of the story. THEME The theme of Romeo and Juliet is different those have been done in the works of other works such as this. Being a tragedy this means someone of great importance in the story will die, or a great tragedy will occur in the story. The theme I saw was that of a tragic irony where Romeo and Juliets love in the end causes the death of the two.

This is why the story is so popular I believe, because in the story there is no happy ending or one at least the audience would have liked to have read or seen. The theme in the story is very unique compared to other love stories where all ends well, making it one the best works on literature in its time period. Quotes O Romeo, Romeo!
