There are two types of cloning. The type of cloning which was not mentioned in the film, but was rather assumed to be an earlier form of cloning is when there is a mother involved. There is no genetic information of the mother; however the baby will grow inside of her. The other kind of cloning, which is assumed to be a more advanced form of cloning, is by using blank bodies and importing the genetic information into those bodies so that they will resemble whoever they are cloning in just a few hours. Although this form of cloning is pure science fiction, I believe that something similar can happen in the future. The first type of cloning will take a lot longer then just a few hours, it will have to grow out like a normal human, therefore rendering it impossible for the clone and donor to look the exact same at the exact same time, that is unless they take out the genetic information of the donor when it is a fetus, so they will be born a few months or maybe even weeks apart.

However since they are both growing up in the same time frame, they will be considered twins. I believe there are no real identity theft problems with this kind of cloning since it is clearly not fast enough and people will be able to tell the two from each other since the clone will have to grow inside of a mother for nine months. The real threat is the second type of cloning; being able to clone someone to look exactly like the person being cloned in the same time frame can result in the clone taking over the donors life. However I found a loophole.

In the movie when they take the donors genetic information and import it into the blank body, the clone grows up to look just like the donor. It should really grow up to look like a giant infant because age is not encrypted into our genes. Age happens naturally through the diminution and reproduction of cells. And the reason why it shouldnt grow to be a normal infant is because the body that the infant is grown in, the blank body is already grown to full adult human size. An example that proves this, the sperm of an adult carries the necessary genetic information to the female egg. Since age is not part of the genetic information, the baby grows inside the mother as a normal baby.

If age is part of the genetic information, the baby will grow inside of the mother to be the same age as the father, and it will look exactly like the father as well. Lets say we forget all of this and solely concentrate on what could be the consequences and benefits of human cloning. For a negative, identity theft would play a large role. A positive would be cloning someone intelligent by using their genes which contain information of intelligence.

Therefore you would have two intelligent people. However you would not be able to tell if the donor is intelligent until at least three or four years of age and higher. Cloning would be good to distribute an intelligent person every possible moment so we have a whole group of intelligent people where the possibilities are endless. However, that is unnatural and manufactured, and is sort of like living for the sake of man kind.

So in a way, it too is a negative. There is definitely the slippery slope that can lead to designer babies, master races, super-soldiers, etc. If misused, cloning can throw the balance of nature out of whack a lot faster and in a much more extreme manner than we have done so thus far. If you were to clone and raise someone to perform experiments on them using the reasoning that they " re a clone and therefore not really human, it is just sick and bizarre. A positive would be repairing someone by growing a fetus with someone elses genetic information to replace the damaged stem cells of an already living human.

That is not one hundred per cent cloning, since it doesnt complete, but it is still a positive. Cloning is good because it can and will lead to a better understanding of both evolution and all living species. It will lead to cures for genetic disorders and possibly even become a form of artificial regeneration for people who lose limbs or get badly burned. There's certainly too much knowledge to be gained to ban it completely. I am sure there are other possibilities but I do not think cloning is necessary. I believe that further research in medicine would play a better part as it doesnt require anything unnatural and / or killing of a fetus for the benefit of someone else.

Exploiting science to our benefit is a good thing, but there is a limit to when we go to far. A controlled cloning facility which does not do anything on my negative examples would be a good way to use cloning to our advantage, but I am sure that in the future cloning will get out of hand.
