Good Afternoon, for those who dont know me my name is mike jones. And I will be talking about Money, Fashion, and The College Student. We all know that money and fashion are two of the most important necessities for the average college student. But before I get started I would like for you to take time and read the article and then Ill get into my presentation.
How many people can relate to article or know someone that can? Its kinda interesting that after doing alot of researching about my article, the topic mainly focused on African-American students, or HBCUs. At most black schools making a fashion statement, and how much money someone has defines a person. Students spend more time determining what they going to wear to class the next day, what they going to wear to the club, or what exclusive outfit theyre going to buy for homecoming, than studying for a simple test. In a way it shows that most African-American students dont have their priorities straight. Has anyone seen someone walk pass you or anybody else and they looked at that persons shoes.
Ladies I heard that a pair of shoes can influence your decision on talking to someone. Why is that? Is appearance and fashion more important to you than personality? I thought college students are supposed to be broke. There are many factors that can influence the fashion of a college student. The refund check is one.
Throughout the semester students were lining up at the cashiers office to collect their refund checks. Thanks to refund checks student go out and buy things they normally couldnt afford such as cars, clothes, jewelry, cell phones, and all that other good stuff. Some students rush out and buy the latest Jordans or Nike's in all types of colors. Shoes that ranges from $ 125 -$ 165 in men. The outfit wont be complete without an authentic jersey or throwback jersey that cost from $ 200 - 300.
And for females, they have to have that name brand purse, jacket, perfume, or shoe. Or they not fly. I know as far as for me I dont try to make a fashion statement, but I do care about what I wear sometimes. Sometimes I can just put on a white tee, blue jeans, and call it a day. Or I can put on some name brand clothing from my hometown.
I live off-campus, have a rent, electric, telephone, cable, and cell phone bill, I dont have a job; and I still gotta have the latest fashions. But thanks to wonderful parents Im able to spend the way I want to. Ive been like this since I dont know how long. I do believe its my downfall, but I cant help it. Thats me. Coming from Houston TX, fashion is everything in the communities.
Every time a pair Jordans come out they sell out in less than 3 hours. You must have the latest of everything. Or you will be talked about. Believe it or not being talked about is an issue for some people in school. I notice that there are a lot of parents in the class.
Parents, you will experience this with your child someday. First, it starts with toys. Your child is going want that new doll, action figure, or remote control car. Then as he / she gets older, toys are going to be the thing anymore, it might be them new shoes his / her friend has. Hip-Hop and Rap Artist also influence the fashion of a college student. We are exposed to the big rims, sound systems, and paint jobs of these artist.
And now everybody on campus believes that they gotta have a system in their trunk that beat, or they have to be riding on 22 or 24 inch rims. Not to mention the infamous bling-bling chains, which some people cant go without. I have a friend that misplaced his chain. Every time is seen him, he would ask me did I see his chain. Then he would go on and talk about how he naked a felt without it. You also have those few students that walk around with their pants half way off their tails.
How long will that last in fashion? I dont let fashion define me as a person. I dress with the latest fashion because it makes me feel good, not to impress anybody. I make sure I handle my business and take care of whats important first. Then I get fly.
