The Constitution and the Articles of Confederations are two very seperate documents but they both had an important purpose. The purpose of the Articles of Confederation was to establish the union of the thirteen American states. The purpose of the constitution was to revise the Articles of Confederation so that the states would accept it. The constitution also established justice, secured liberty, and general welfare.

War was an important issue in both documents. In the Constitution of Independence, congress the power to declare war and maintain an army and navy. This was also allowed in the Articles of Confederation. But in Article IX of the Articles of Confederation, the congress could not engage in a war. Ratification in the Constitution of Independence required nine states to agree to establish the Constitution of Independence.

The Articles of Confederation called for all of them. Congress had the power to print money, and the right to borrow money. The Articles of Confederation did not allow this at all. The Articles of Confederation did not have the checks and balances.

The Constitution used the checks and balances to restrain the power of the three branches. The three branches of checks and balances are the Legislative Branch which makes the laws. The Judicial Branch which Interprets the laws. And the Executive Branch which enforces and carries out the laws.

The federal powers of the Articles of Confederation were limited to the government, but they weren't so strict on the states. The Constitution of Independence is a revised form of the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation did not give the people of the United States a firm government, but the Constitution of Independence did. Since the Constitution was written as a flexible document it is still in effect today.
