I have a friend named Elizabeth Smith who went to the University of Illinois - Chicago. She did not have to work because her parents paid for her school and all her expenses. All she had to worry about was studying and doing her homework. Nevertheless, instead of using the time wisely, she would always procrastinate doing her schoolwork by saying that there is enough time to do it later.

Moreover, almost every afternoon she watched television and talked on the phone with her friends. Still, she preferred to study after eight o'clock at night, but this was the time her friends wanted to go out. Unfortunately, she would hardly ever do her homework; thus, her essays were also late. After Elizabeth's first year at the University, her grades seemed to get worse and worse. What do you think would happen if Elizabeth would have to work and pay her own tuition? Do you think it would change her behavior toward school?

Finally, I concluded that students who pay their own tuition are more likely to do well in school. First and most importantly, I think it is proper time management that effects good performance in school. Let us look at the students who do not have to pay their own tuition, so they do not have to work. Because they have a lot of free time after school, they think that there is enough time to do their homework later, so they do not even bother to think about it and plan when to do it.

For example, think about the time that some of them waste by watching their favorite TV shows, or by playing games on the Internet. This time could be used for doing math problems or for starting to write an essay, which could be due in a week. These students tend to put things off for later. On the other hand, because students who work while going to school have a limited time for studying and doing homework, they have to plan their time for the future, so they do not put themselves behind other classmates. They see time as time blocks, so they plan their work ahead. For example, if they know that they are working tomorrow, and their homework is due in three days, most likely they would start doing their homework today because they realize that tomorrow they will be too tired after work to do their homework.

Indeed, time for work and school can be hard to juggle, but it helps students organize their time, so there is enough time to do the assigned homework or to study. In fact, they are paying for school with their own money; thus, they do not want to waste the opportunity to do well in school. For this reason, students who work and go to school at the same time value time more than students who do not work; working students must know how to organize their time to succeed in school. Furthermore, students with jobs work hard to get good grades because they want to keep what they have paid for. Truly, paying for something and then losing it is not the purpose of buying it. Let us look at another situation.

If students pay for a certain class, and they get into the desired class which they paid for, now they will study hard to get their money's worth. Consequently by paying their own tuition, students respect their education. Despite this, if students do not do their homework and do not study for their classes, they will get a grade that they deserve, or they will have to drop these classes. Nevertheless, a class dropped after a certain day is not refunded. Therefore, most students do not have the money to waste, so they will stu y to keep their classes. Indeed, working students' performance in school motivates them to do well in school because they value the money that they are spending in order to go there.

Because of this, they want to do as well as they can in all their studies. We can clearly see that by paying their own tuition students will perform the best they can in order to receive the best value. Finally, effectiveness of performing any kind of job is what today's employers are looking for. That is why the perfect people that fit that category will be the ones that work while going to school. In fact, these students will make effective workers in the future because they are able to do many things in a short period.

Let us consider working students again. These students go to school, study, and work. To keep up with schoolwork, they have to do many papers and study for tests or quizzes in a short time. For this reason, effectiveness in managing work and school is a very powerful tool that can be used in a future job. Moreover, students who have to pay tuition concentrate on doing the assigned work and handing it in on time.

In a future job, there will be deadlines for certain projects. Unlike the classroom, where the punishment for not handing in an assignment on time is one grade lower, in a real world job the worker could be fired for being late with an assignment. Therefore, productive workers are expected to do what they are told to do. Otherwise, students who work and go to school in the same time are, most likely, assured to have better jobs in the future because they are not replaceable and are valuable for the company. Paying for tuition can be very stressful because students have to work, but it will pay off in the future. In addition, money spent for classes motivates students to do well in school, and the skill time management helps students to become valuable workers.

When you become a parent, you will be better off if you make your child to go to work. Then, your child will respect the education more. Let us go back to Elizabeth Smith and give her advice. Paying for your own school will force you to study harder and, therefore, you will have better grades.
