Socrates believes that the spoken words can be brought forth with great knowledge from the credibility of the speaker. The speaker would be able to dictate using his genuine knowledge to pass on his own beliefs. Socrates thinks that speaking is a more noble than writing because, the speaker can defend his own words. As for written words, they can only read by the reader and if the reader were to question the words, the written language can only say "the same thing, over, and over forever." The written words cannot defend it self as well as if it were to be spoken.
Therefore led Socrates to his conclusions that speaking is a more noble activity than writing. Speaking gives the listener a sense of trust. The speaker knows which audience to speak to and not to speak to. The opportunities that speaking offers us that writing can't do is telling the listener about the events that happen during the present time, censorship, and trust from the credibility of the speaker. Through today's technology more and more information is being presented in this world.
Thus gives the speaker the upper hand to tell the facts as we speak during the present times. If present time information would be written down today, tomorrow the information may be absolute. Censorship is always a major issue; the speaker gets to express his or her opinions to their intended audience without offending anyone. If the opinions were to be written, their beliefs would open up to the unintended audience.
Anyone can put something in writing even if the information is false and that could lead the reader into thinking that false information is true. If a speaker who has earned the credibility of the audience through professional views or first hand experiences this would give the audience the confidence in the information that is being presented to them. Writing can often lead the reader into misinterpretation, thus giving the reader a sense of confusion. Written words can fall into the wrong hands that could cause harm to him self or another. Writing can be a dangerous activity, because one thing can mean another, leaving the reader with questions that cannot be answered by the words it self.
Written words can also be dangerous if the information falls into the wrong hands. For example if a Top Secret plan on building the latest weapon on mass destruction were to land in the hand of an unintended person perhaps a terrorist the whole world can be in grave danger.
