Some of the influences of self-mutilation, Self Injury, Medication, and Self Harm come from various sources. In some cases people saw it on television and mimicked what they saw. Other influences may be from watching or hearing about friends or adults doing it, or reading about it on the internet and in magazines. Many of the television shows today show blood, guts, violence, suicide, and sometimes self harm. An anonymous person said "I saw it when I was in sixth grade, and I thought they made it look cool." The impact that T. V has on a young mind is incredible.

It can make them think they can do something without having short or long term effects. T. V doesn't show the reality of the seriousness of these issues. It shows fame, glamour, money, and many other things.

You may be young or old while sitting at a table or on the floor, and seeing someone you love or care about deeply hurt themself deliberately. The impact that this has on you is tremendous, and you may try to copy what they did. At first you may not realize what this is doing to you. After awhile you become dependent on self-moralization as a resort to your stress, anger, depression, and all the other feelings you feel inside. When walking in the hallway at work or school, you might hear someone talk about hurting themselves and how it releases the pain. You decide to try it, and after awhile the scars just bring back memories of them bad days.

Then you start to talk in the hallways at school or work, and another person picks up on it and tries it. You can find anything on the internet today, and some of these things set a bad example for gullible minds. When reading about self-moralization, another anonymous person said, "I saw it on the internet, and they were talking about how it made all your troubles go away... then I tried it and it just made more problems. " Along the same lines as the internet is magazines. Magazines show beautiful perfect looking people along with interesting articles.

In one magazine there was an article on stars who cut themselves. To a reader reading this in a magazine they might get the idea that if stars did it, then they can do it and be "cool" like them. Newspapers also show death, suicide, and killings in many of their articles. This encourages your mind to strive to be noticed in some way, and self moralization is noticable, so they might try it. The short and long term effects are various.

Some of the short term effects are bleeding, pain, stinging, along with the release of tension, and the feel that you have control over yourself and your emotions. The long term effects are scars, you may become addicted to it, and you might become socially isolated. Self-mutilation can also lead to other people doing it, not being able to deal with your problems and not being able to solve them, possible mental illness future, depression, guilt, shame, inability to cope with life, and possible suicide. Many people think that self-injury leads to suicide but in many articles it states that it doesn't. Suicide is the desire to end one's life, and self injury is just the desire to feel better. Only 14 percent of people were diagnosed with major depression, as where 56 percent of suicide attempts are diagnosed with major depression.
